Ha, agreed! However, it still doesn't auger well for affordability when numbers like $30K start getting thrown around. "Under $30K" is often code for "you can buy a Snickers bar with the change you get back when you hand us $30K."

Yea, if Scion prices the FR-S for $29,995, it's likely they will have lost most of the buyers.

Notice they didn't say "under 25k" and I honestly expected this car to start much closer to 20k then 25k with the way the production version is.

Most? I'm honestly not sure anyone would buy it. Toyota/Subaru are not run by idiots...

I wouldn't bother with trying to turbocharge the stock engine. Just swap in a EJ257 and get 400hp+ without wearing out your pocket book.

If the gearing of the transmission is as high as it appears to be, this car would easily be in the mid-low 11's with that swap.

How well the trans/diff/axles would hold up to that much power... No idea.

WTH??? Jack Hollis said that the price "starts with a 2" so that means its above $19,999 and below $30,000. how on earth does this shit gets twisted to mean an MSRP of $29,995???

If it's even close to $30000 then Hyundai is laughing their asses off right now.

[...as we all run around like chickens with their heads cut off freaking out over the price]

I think we're all on the same page here:
*Low $20k's will get a line out the door at the dealerships
*$25k-ish will get some moans & likely a good chunk of lost sales
*high $20's will leave almost everyone pissed
*$29,995 is a death sentence.

That'd be sweet if it was a decent swap, without the need of a standalone!

With the rate of monetary inflation its amazing to me that they can even offer it in the low $20k range.
Those are all luxuries IMHO. Racecar!

The Scion is the closest to the basics. All that stuff being complained about is upgradable if not from the dealer then aftermarket or even custom.

Eg. swapping the front bumper is hardly a rage worthy issue. I'd trade the scion bumper straight across or a Subaru front bumper and I'm sure there are others who might do it. The Subaru front bumper bar is going to be easier to customize. I wanted the Altezza tails but we're not getting those. I would have traded the Subaru red tails for a set of clear chromium tails. You don't see me complaining, the car is a good and fairly blank canvas. The rest is going to be subjective and personal opinion.

If you want something even close to what you want without compromise, you need to pony up. Custom isn't cheap.

People paid 34-35k for a car with 40 more hp, it's called a S2000. So I believe it will still sell to the fanboys at $29,995.
