I really can't go too much into the situation, but @Dave-ROR is correct; the rotor is not heavily worn at all. This is what our AP rotor currently looks like:

Because it acts as a heat shield, keeping heat away from other suspension components (ball joints anyone?).
Also, as @jamal mentioned, it is ducted, and the heat shield will reduce turbulance, directing air to the proper place. |

I had a bolt come loose from the exhaust once, it managed to lodge itself between the wheel and the rear brake caliper, machining a groove in the wheel. Luckily I was coming down the pit lane, or it could have been a SPECTACULAR failure. It was still stuck there as a came to a stop. I use v-band clamps on exhaust flanges now... (edit - changed phrase to "reflecting")
