The GReddy SP does NOT overwhelm the TRD intake sound. The SP Elite somewhat overwhelmed the sound tube but I had the most aggressive TRD red sound changer on and could hear it if I listened for it. It'd probably overwhelm the stock sound changer, though.

I believe GReddy is known to be one of the quieter exhausts which might be a reason many owners have been selling theirs.

Yep. No noticeable gain in volume but no loss either. However I didn't think to look at the times in the chart or in other words how quickly the volume was reached in comparison. I think I posed the question in another post but has anyone done before and after logs on any of the intakes?

I didn't drive the car for the last couple of days but I'll try to get some info today. Shop's pretty busy right now, no time for fun.

TRD CAI Filter Size

Got the TRD CAI yesterday and I'll install tomorrow. I don't have access to a dyno and really don't care that much. The TRD install is much cleaner; eliminating a whole lot of plumbing. They do leave the vestiges of the lower sound-tube plumbed into the firewall, but cap it off, making reverting to the stock set-up easy.

The filter looks like a custom K&N filter built for the large box; stainless steel supporting a cotton, washable filter medium that's 15.5 X 4.75 inches. They recommend using the K&N wash & re-oil kit. That's 73.6 sq. inches of filter surface.

Kit comes with several pages of install instructions, w/photos and all the fittings required. Some of the OEM fittings & bolts are reused, so don't throw them out. Also don't forget to disconnect the battery to reset the ECU and then log some miles on the reset ECU before making any comparisons with the stock set-up.

We're installing a set of braided brake lines tomorrow and servicing the brakes while we're in there. I'm hoping to get a firmer pedal with that mod. It's all about the TOTAL car. I'll have more to report after I've driven it for a while. In time, I'll go to stickier rubber when I've worn out the OEM Michelins and I may go to slightly bigger brakes when they need replacing.

Have to agree there. A 2nd gear pull from 4.5k-7krmp sounds very nasty. Very much an aggressive growl.

Seems like it has a slight raspy growl whereas my Takeda was a [louder] continuous boom.

SO it's about 58-59% increase fllter area. Not bad!

Would like to know what is the length and diameter of Perrin filter to calculate area of it.

This is what I've posted also in the thread--TRD, CAI. I'm happy with the item in question and I'm not going to debate or flog this dead horse further. I hope that what I've added to both these threads some folks find usefull!

OK, We installed the TRD CAI on the BRZ this AM. The instructions and parts were all quality and the install required about 25 minutes. Some hardware from the OEM CAI were used in the install. The original MAF sensor is simply moved to the new airbox. If you look at your engines I believe the covers say both Toyota and Subaru; I doubt that you will encounter any crap from your dealer on warranty issues

Note: this was included in the instructions___

" If your state requires an Emissions Compliance Label, one may be ordered through your Scion dealer or the Toyota Materials Distribution Center (MDC) 310-468-9800 or MDC@toyota.com"

Also: "This TRD Performance Air Intake Kit has received 50-State Emissions Compliance via the California Air Resources Board (CARB). Not all states require the Emission Compliance Label for this TRD Performance Air Intake Kit, please order MDC part number 00602-21140. Proof of ownership may be required."

Next up---I do not have access to a dyno. I am 71 years-old and have been an SCCA licensed driver as well having driven a variety of performance machinery my whole life. It's my opinion that the TRD CAI has dramatically improved the low-end torque. When I roll on the throttle I'm getting a nice seamless torque response throughout the RPM range, where the OEM setup was peaky at best. All of the OEM system is removed except the last little bit of the sound tube, which is blocked off with a cap. The cabin is slightly less noisy, I can now hear the injectors clicking (a common Subaru trait). The engine now sounds like an engine; lovely, smooth mechanical sounds instead of that "artifical sound-tube." There is no "magic" bullet to increase horsepower without spending cubic dollars. Subaru and Toyota have equipped these cars with technology that was common only to real racing cars not so many years ago. My goal has been to enhance my BRZ with practical additions that increase my driving pleasure and enjoyment. The only other items I've added were a master cylinder brace and braided stainless brakelines. These enhancements have produced a much firmer pedal that reminds of race cars I've driven. Now I'm going to enjoy driving the car and "learning" to get the most out of it with what skills I still have.

Motor Trend on their long-term test blog has videos comparing before/after sounds of their FR-S after it received the TRD intake and exhaust mods.

Videos are at the bottom of the article here: http://wot.motortrend.com/2013-scion...re-351939.html
