Wow, not the color I would have chosen, but it looks great. Looks like you did a really great job on the install, very clean.

Thanks for posting, IronSquid!

I'm looking into doing the same job. 3M VentureShield matte finish paint protection film (on top of Lava) for bumpers, quarter panels, doors. Hood, trunk, roof will get 3M 1080 carbon wrap.

Until you go and measure... it seems absurd that the rear quarter panels require 4'x8' each. Tacking that up is probably going to be a nightmare.

Questions:
1) Did the concave spaces give you much headache? The fender inserts and front fangs don't scare me nearly as much as those door handles.

2) Do you have advice for keeping the edges (like under the side skirts) from bunching up and peeling loose?

3) For external coverage, I calculated 4'x48' as sufficient for my clear zones, and 5'x10' as sufficient for my carbon zones. How much extra do you recommend for door jambs, trunk lid and "fold around"?

Thanks in advance!
- Chris

1. Not really, correct heat temp is key. The concaves are easier than curves and stretches. Once you get the door handle off the car, it's really simple.

2. Heat, every vinyl material has "edge" instructions. For Hexis you must cure it between 175F-190F degrees. For 3M you might need Edge Primer, essentially extra stickiness. Take your time, buy a nice heat gun and an infrared temp gun.

3. We only had 5ft sheets to work with, 4ft would only be close doing the rear quarter/doorsill/sideskirt area. For the Door jambs, we used about another 6 inches, but you'll want 8-10 inches extra on all sides when you're doing the initial lay down. If you cut too short, or dont give yourself enough material, when you start stretching over curves and angles you may screw yourself. Play it safe and plan for at least 6 inches extra all around for every panel.

The "extra" vinyl isn't a bad thing, so don't think you're wasting material if you don't get exact measurements, having "handles" on all sides to pull and stretch is a must, I'd rather just cut off a foot of material.

FYI, if you're not going to cover an entire body panel make sure you use knifeless tape to make your cuts across panels.

Is there any specific videos that you found helpful? or sites? Or did you just google and youtube search and looked at random stuff?
Thanks

Pretty much just google and youtube. Completely random videos, like europeans doing vinyl wraps on a car roof on the side of the road when it's raining, to lambos getting a complete faux carbon fiber wrapped, to like a chrome wrap on a corvette.

We spent 34 hours doing the wrap, we probably researched and watched 10-12 hours of youtube/google. Take your time and have patience is all I can say. (and grab a friend and do it in a clean garage)

Haha ya I did my whole 95 civic in matte black. But the concaved parts on bumpers were hard. Just wanted to see if there were any videos that might have taught how to do those parts. Thanks

After we did the bumper in the dining room, I thought to myself I should have video taped it.

When you're exhausted and have been vinyl'ing for 26 hours at that point, taking video of the process is like.. ugh.

What I can do, we have lots of extra vinyl, I can make a short tutorial video on concaves, working with the material, the stretch %, etc.

If you could that'd be awesome! I'm sure anyone who wants to do it will find it helpful. Especially the front bumper where the point sticks out. I can't imagine how you did that in one piece. When I did it I just gave up and plasti dipped the inside where the grille was. No one noticed lol

Great job!! Now I'm inspired. But why hexis and not 3m 1080. It's cheaper. Do you think 22 yards would be enough fore whole car minus roof. Also what tools do recommend for the job?
Thanks

Seriously nice work with the vinyl!! You laid it down like a pro!! Now get some Eibach sportlines on there to get it sitting right.
