Oil Analysis - 1st oil change

Changed my oil at 10065 and sent it in for testing. No idea where that titanium is from.

Kind of difficult to read too much into this due to the break-in wear metals. Is this the second change? Nice to see someone running a 5W-20 for over 7k miles with no make-up oil added. I've been suggesting 5W-20 to Forester owners that are having consumption issues. Generally speaking, a 5W-20 will be more stable/less volatile than a 0W-20.

Although it's a different lab, this VOA also shows titanium at 2 ppm's. Titanium is used as an anti-wear additive.

Thanks for posting up, I updated the first post with your link. The titanium was probably in your oil which I can't say for sure because nobody has run pennzoil on this thread yet. Maybe one of the other guys will know for sure.

Yea I changed it originally at 3000.

This oil change had 4 different autocross events two of which had co drivers, and 2 - 100+ mile hill country drives through some fun roads running at pretty high rpms.

Throwing this in there for science. My 3rd oil change, 2nd gearbox fluid change.

Oil went from Stock -> Amsoil -> Amsoil -> Amsoil
Gearbox went from Stock -> Motul Gear 300 -> Amsoil

Any thoughts on the gearbox change interval?

I'm at 15.5k and have been waiting for free time to change my diff and gearbox fluid since 7k ...

Funny Blackstone comment: "Monitor make-up oil; 5.5 qts is a lot for a new engine".

I presume that you listed your total oil capacity instead of actually listing how much oil you had to add during the interval. How much did you add?

My tranny oil looked fine at 20k but the diff was rough. Had I checked the diff earlier I would have changed it sooner.
I'd say change both now, I used Amsoil for tranny and diff though they're different specs for each.

Did an oil change so I added that much

The BRZed shop manual says to add 5.7 US qts to the engine when replacing the oil and filter. It seems like an amazing amount

FYI, that section is only for when you need to add oil to top-up (make-up) during the interval between oil changes.

For the Make-Up Oil field, please put the number of quarts added between oil changes.

The NZ/AU service schedule says to inspect MT fluid every 20K mi?? It also says vehicles that are subject to continuous high speed &/or heavy use to replace the MT fluid every 20K mi.
Those of us who replace the factory fill with something better like Redline MT-90, Motul 300 gear etc etc should be able to extend that easily.

Diff oil is every 30K. There's nothing stopping you dropping it early & replacing with something from Redline, Amsoil or Motul.

It's all coming together now. heh. I made a goof. I thought that was how much you added after taking a sample.

Good news then. I didn't add any oil between the oil change interval.

edit: I got most of the info I was looking for.

What I'm still trying to figure out, is if a failsafe way to determine the difference (from the bottle itself) between the Scooby SM and SN formulations was ever discovered?
