Mine doesn't do that. Make sure you keep auto off, then manually turn off the a/c and adjust the temp and air direction with the knobs. Once you have it set, turn the car off and back on again. The a/c should not come on and your previous settings should still be there.

I could be wrong, but that's how auto climate control was explained to me when I was trained on it for Audi cars. I would assume it's similar for this system.

Push the Auto button, then push the A/C button. Done.

No. It works by turning on and off all the time.

ok that what i'm gonna do then. whenever that AC turns on i'm gonna shut it off right away, as quick as a ninja. although some of you don't have the AC on automatically for every setting, then i guess i'm probably doing something wrong. i'll play around with it more. thanks guys

that's normal. it happens with any car. if you dont want the hot air coming into the car, press the "Recirculate" button. it'll turn off all the vents in the car and you won't get any air coming in.

The A/C thing really bothers me as well. Especially given that it is currently winter time. I would greatly prefer if the car was smarter about the AC operation, like if it took the outside air temperature into consideration when operating.

I don't care if my interior temp is set to 65. If its 25 degrees outside the AC shouldn't turn on!!!

My AC comes on every time also. Drives me crazy, though maybe I was doing something wrong, but now I feel better about it.

Subaru should have the ability to customize set the air system so the AC doesn't come on unless the button is pushed. A true automatic system should work both ways, fully manual or auto.
