So it does appear I have a more updated version of the HU's firmware.
So now we just need someone to customize the firmware so that speed sensing isn't getting input from the GPS. Anyone know if there is any work in this area going on?

Sorry, you can see the version info from regular operating mode (it's not on the diagnostics screen). For anyone else who needs to check:

1. Press "Audio"
2. Touch "Info"
3. Touch "Software version"

That screen will show both the audio and navigation software versions.

To access diagnostics mode:

1. Turn off audio by pressing the PWR/VOL button/knob.
2. Press and hold all 3 buttons below the volume knob for 3 seconds.

To exit, press and hold the AUDIO button for more than 3 seconds, or turn key from ACC OFF to ON.

There doesn't appear to be any version information shown in diagnostics mode.

i did the nav hack on my dmg brz and it worked great. then did it on my fathers sti and my cousins sti worked great everytime. my brz got totaled now i have a new wrb brz and did the nav hack on it. the same way i did on all the others grounded the grey wire on the 16 pin plug and cut the 17th pin pink/green on the 28 pin plug. this time nothing changed as soon as i start to move it kills those functions. i even unplugged the entiree 28 pin plug and still does the same thing. the model number of the head unit is the same as well. anybody have any ideas as why it would work on some but not others?

I believe it has to do with the TSB update for the GPS signal issues. They reprogram the nav and I think they change it to sensing if the car is moving by GPS signal. If you want to confirm this you can unplug your gps antennae and see if the BT functions return.

Are you referring to the VSS bypass? I think I have an older version of the navigation firmware which ignores GPS detection and relies solely on VSS input to determine if the nanny should kick in.

Yeah, I'm avoiding the Navi firmware upgrade until someone figures out how to make VSS/GPS Bypass work.

I believe I have a post here somewhere with a pic of it. I'm on my phone so I can't look now but I'll try and find it later.

FP/OP - still waiting on Perrin to ship it. FT86speedfactory is following up with them on status since it was confirmed in stock last week when I ordered it.

As soon as I get it, it'll be installed by the following weekend. Weather permitting.

EDIT:

Here it is: http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showt...388#post615388

The switch is inline on pin 17 of the 20-pin head unit harness. Pink/Green marking on the wire. Single-Pole/Single-Throw switch spliced right in between, and now I can use my head unit while moving. My understanding is that some other folks with different Navi firmwares have tried this mod, but the GPS signal is still preventing them from bypassing the VSS.

I'm so glad I haven't gotten anything "fixed/updated" on my car from the dealership yet.. My NAV finds satellite signal pretty good, ~90% of the time, so it wasn't too annoying.

I'm gonna finally try this bypass and see if it works.

I'm wondering if there is a better fix for the VSS signal without having to cut and wire in a switch. I'd like to use a voltmeter on that pink/green wire and the ground while the car is moving to see if the voltage changes or if it's a simple on/off. If so, we may be able to just use a simple splice and hook that wire onto something else so it tells the HU that the car is in perpetual motion. If I can get this figured out, I'll post up a YouTube tutorial from start to finish.

You're missing the point. The speed signal helps with GPS accuracy / driving through tunnels etc.. Just cut it if you're not bothered about accuracy.
