climate control swap possibility

sorry I am ignorant when it comes to all of this wiriing but does that mean if he had a panel he could attempt to at least see if they fit the Brz and would operate it in some form or fashion whether its dual or not>

I am FAR from an expert in anything like this...but by eyeballing it it seems the smaller plug is the same, the larger is not. Smaller plug would seem to fit near the 'black dial' on the FR-S unit. As far as Aussies go...not a clue.

If you want to pin out (wire color and wire location on connector) I could do the same so we could in fact see if one of the plugs is the same.

Well at least it looks like we are making progress

When I order the panel, I will PM Nigel and see if he can come up with some part numbers.

Unless someone else could or has the know how to find out the exact parts needed and the numbers so they could be ordered....

So at this point does it look like we have at least a 50 50 shot of being able to make this happen ?

I went and found the actual connector and it's definitely not the same. Picture looked very similar but the FR-S connector has only a single row of pins.

It is very possible, Just a questions of how many parts and how much time it will take.

I think this is going to be not as hard as something like a BRZ Premium to Limited swap.

I couldn't get to the vent actuators very easily (nighttime and very cold), but I got the whole Blower assembly number for cross reference against the FRS unit. As well as the Digital climate control unit.

So what is the next step we take in order to figure this thing out?

Any questions I should ask the Toyota Mechanic or is this something basically us owners are going to have to figure out and make happen on our own. ?

Keep me updated with the info, and I will follow your lead. Seems like so far we have a lot of good info thus far hopefully we can find out more.

If this swap is possible which sounds like it is, there is going to be a spike in Climate control panel and parts orders to go along with it. I havent spoke to one FRS owner who doesnt want the panel.

This would be awesome to put the finishing touch on my interior upgrades and sounds like still within the budget I have given myself for the interior.

Z what should I do with this info? as of right now I myself dont have the know how to take apart the unit without fear of messing something up.

If I am able to do this I would be buying the parts and end up paying my buddy to do the swap.

Is there anything I can do with those part numbers? Like contact Toyota and have them reference the numbers. I know there was another thread with a website called village scion .com or something where people where getting a lot of parts from.

I wonder if they would be able to shed any light on this. Also what would be the proper questions to ask them?

Alright.

To move forward we need to find out the Differences in the Blower assembly in the FRS, versus the BRZ. We know that the FRS uses 2 manually controlled "knobs" that utilize physical cables. While on the other hand the BRZ uses electronically controlled motorized actuators. Now, We might be able to just add the electronic vent actuators to the FRS blower assembly, circumventing the need for the physical cables that the FRS Manual climate control uses.

Once we find out if the actuators can be placed on the FRS blower assembly, without need of replacing the Whole unit, we can move onto the wiring aspect.

Our next step in research is to Cross reference the following parts. These are BRZ parts, so we need to see if the FRS uses matching parts.

FROM BRZ LIMITED W/DIGITAL CLIMATE CONTROL

Blower Assy - DENSO JAPAN 72100CA070 443180-0914
Integ Unit Assy - DENSO JAPAN 882810A300 232800-0040

Once We have cross reference of those parts from an FRS we can move forward onto further solutions.

I downloaded the PDF for this off dealership website. The GTS comes with the climate control which we know and the other version is basically
our FRS. Keep fingers crossed that its nothing major and we can ge our hands on the information to make it happen

I would start by asking if the part numbers I mentioned are the same part numbers used in the FRS.

I put the part number above in BOLD because those are the Part manufactures part number. The manufacture is DENSO. DENSO should be a common part manufacture with Subaru AND Toyota/Scion.

This is basically what I would ask if I called...

"Do you have the blower assembly for a Scion FRS and what is the full part number?"

"Do you have the Integ unit assembly for a Scion FRS and what is the full part number?"
