FYI, it actually says "Customize Grade," implying that it's meant to get you the car for less and allow you to add your own parts as you see fit. Depending on the pricing, it may be worth it.

Toyota has always offered a completely stripped down base model for as long as I could remember. My first '88 Toyota P/U was just like that; no SR5, no radio, a rubber plug for the antenna, bullet hole rims, fabric seats, 5 spd, no chrome package, no pin stripping, no floor mats, no AC, no power steering, manual doorlocks and manual windows.
The op is talking about the customize grade not the low spec.

Edit: I really should read the rest if the thread first.

I was just wondering how many of you guys are going to buy the CG model to turbo charge it, if turbo charging it would cost a ton cause of the high CR. And as a side note the CR is directly related to milage right? So if you turbo charge it would probably only be a track car.

Usually turbo charging a track car isn't a great idea unless you're made of money and dont care about something breaking every time you go out for a session.

Mine is one step up from that, with no power anything and no ABS, but had painted bumpers and a radio from the factory. The non-ABS cars are actually more sought after now.
That was how Toyota was back in the 80's and some of their current models, like the Tacoma still offers a complete stripped down version.

I was trying to use the best example and saw that his was drives a DX. That's a perfect example minus the DX having a SOHC. That is like asking, "Is the Honda DX a race spec!?"

Ok, Customize Grade just so we're all on the same page. It's a "clean canvas" model but not a race spec hence the word "Customize".

The "Customize Grade" at the bottom is interesting:
  • the "customize grade" bare bones model is 1190 kg !!
  • Unpainted bumper
  • 16 steelies (says ornament-included, guessing it includes the logo)
  • plastic steering wheel
  • NO A/C (only a heater)
  • Power door locks
  • Sunvisor (no vanity mirror)
  • No speakers

But the Customize grade matches what they claimed the "R version" would have so it's quite possible that they are the same thing.. and Japan only.

No it doesn't. The customize grade doesn't include a rollcage and BBK lol

True on the rollcage and brakes. Also, all of the "what the r version includes" came from a magazine with a ton of wrong info.

One additional bit of wrong info could even be that an R version will even exist. This is NOT been released by Toyota or Subaru, just hinted at according to magazines which are worthless for information like that.

My point was that the customize grade matches the magazines rumor most accurately.

I'm pretty sure you can count out seeing such a stripped down version in the US. Scion probably learned that lesson when they brought out that stripped TC.

I hope your Type R didn't come with unpainted bumpers and black donuts!
