Race spec

Can someone in the know please tell me if the frs with the black front and rear bumpers w/ steelies, if that is truly is a stripped down track version. I have read both yes and no?

Probably a Japan-only model for racing, yes.

Neutral_Eyes 11-08-2011 10:44 PM

Stripped down, yes. Track version, no.

It's considered the Low Spec which is similar to what you're driving now now; a Honda Civic DX. It's not a race spec

Its offered so race shops/companies have a cheaper alternative than buying a fully equiped car.

No A/C, no radio, no wheels, no paint, probably doesn't have floor mats or junk in the trunk either (spare/jack/etc.).

Its nothing new, and probably won't be sold outside of Japan.

In certain situation, yes but higher race teams usually get a tighter-spec'd version and not an oem-drive-off the lot vehicle. Of course a stripped down version is beneficial to race shops but I doubt the low spec will be classified as their race version.

Toyota has always offered a completely stripped down base model for as long as I could remember. My first '88 Toyota P/U was just like that; no SR5, no radio, a rubber plug for the antenna, bullet hole rims, fabric seats, 5 spd, no chrome package, no pin stripping, no floor mats, no AC, no power steering, manual doorlocks and manual windows.

I'm fairly sure a "R spec" will come out after the regular FRS/BRZ is out.

They did this with the LFA and IS. More so with the LFA since the Nur. edition actually does have a roll bar, harness, and is lightened.

It would surprise me greatly if they don't do a special edition or "Race spec" as mentioned in one of the articles.

What wouldn't surprise me though is if it doesn't make it to the USA.

Mustang power, Cayman handling, Maserati styling, and Yaris pricing. Please.

Race spec? Maybe TRD version. Low Spec for tuners maybe stripped down version.

Subaru also sold an Impreza like that here in the states in the mid 90's. I'm not certain which model year it was, but it was a stripped down, un-painted bumpers model.

Mine is one step up from that, with no power anything and no ABS, but had painted bumpers and a radio from the factory. The non-ABS cars are actually more sought after now.
