I've changed the oil to Pentosin along with whiteline trans mount, perrin bushing, and rear whiteline bushings.

Wish I could say that I was "WOWED" at the improvement. Maybe a subtle improvement or wishful thinking. Still double clutch going up the gears into second when its cold. Otherwise a steady pressure and it will eventually go. When warm at low RPM the downshifts and up shift into second usually happen with a slight grind/clunk. Seems to work best at higher rpm and snap shifting.

I kind of need to try and pull the shifter towards myself instead of pull it straight towards the 2nd gear to shift it smoothly.

If you've changed the transmission oil and you're still having trouble, why not take it to the dealership and have them check the shift linkage? Maybe something is out of alignment? I know on my Mazdaspeed3 there was a quick and easy adjustment for the shift cable, but I don't know how the FR-S linkage is laid out.

Thanks guys for the advice. Ill change out the tranny oil soon and see if it helps. I'm new to manual trans and wanted to know if this was common or if I was doing something wrong but by the sounds of it it's just a normal FR-S thing. Ill being it up next time I'm in though just so if my tranny or 2nd gear go, I can at least say "hey any problems probably have to do with tht thing I said was happening. But other than that ill just try to find the sweet spot. Thanks again and have a good one.

I havent had any problems but it is knotchy. I don't mind that. do you guys think that a shorter throw would alleviate your problems? I'm really keen on that STI short shifter.

Mine was stiff until about 4000miles or so, about 50/50 highway/city miles until 2nd gear smoothed out.

Pentosin made a big difference for me accross the board, but most noticeable on the 1-2 upshift and the 5-4 downshift. Miracle lube? Pretty close to it for me.

I have a 1000 miles and i have trouble with 1st! It goes in but its so clunky that i can FEEL it going in through the drive train of the car... its almost like it "bangs" into first and disrupts the car

Ya sometimes second too... Gear box is not good in my opinion...

Actually since it provides less leverage, a short shifter is going to make any unevenness or notichness subjectively worse, as overall effort levels are increased.

Mine is exactly the same going into first, but not every shift which is weird.
Little bt on second. Sort of shudders into first.

It does a little thunk when it goes into first. My RX-8 did the same thing. Hey, that car also had an Aisin 6-speed, what a coincidence.

Another thing I noticed about the Miata and RX-8 6-speeds was that second gear wasn't directly "down" from first. It was actually down and very slightly to the right. Try moving out of first, then pause for just a moment and relax your grip, then find second.

I haven't had any trouble with second in our FR-S. It's reverse that's a real bitch. We plan to do Redline gear oil after another couple thousand miles. That smoothed out the Miata and RX-8 a lot.
