2nd gears a b*tch

I've had my FR-S for about 2 months now and am up to about 4000km. But I still have trouble with second gear. 9/10 times I have to work at it to get it to slip in. I have no troubles with any of the other gears just second.

Am I the only one?

I only have 1000kms but I've noticed it's not that easy to find second on a downshift. Upshifting is fine though.

I kind of have to force it in as well.

And I see you're a fellow Calgarian :)

Yes, i have this exact same problem since the day I bought it. I took it in and I was told it was "normal".

To their credit the tech said I could come back and and drive it with him in the car to show him what I'm talking about.

I haven't had an opportunity to do this yet.

It's a common 'complaint' for MT owners, most have gotten some results changing the gear fluid.

edit-
How that's fairing, or if it's placebo I wouldn't know. But there's certainly enough people talking about it that it may be of some help.

Normal for the car. Dealer and Scion do not want to hear about it until it actually fails.

There is a thread that suggest some miracle lube will help. I will give it a try in the near future.

Yeah, I have this happen to me as well. It happens mostly on a cold morning.

However, it is not isolated to my 86. It has happened to me on almost every MT I have driven, much like @Spd229 said. I just imagine the car is saying "It's too cold to go in second, lets just hang out in first for while." Double clutching usually takes care of it for me.

Once the engine is warmed up I have no issues though.

My problem is downshifting from 5th to 4th. It's the only gear that catches without going into the gate. It's maddening.

Upgrade your manual transmission oil.

Same problem. Have had it since June 20th and the problem is still there. 5700 miles.

Simple fix, swap the fluid to Pentosin and move on.

That's normal when car is cold though, but after it warms up it goes in well.

That used to happen to me too, but just let it guide you so it doesnt get caught. I just pull it down and it goes into neutral of course but from there just go down to 4th but in 1 smooth motion if you know what I mean.
