I've got some long, negative rants on here about Scion and it being marketing-focused instead of product-focused, but I will not put knock-offs on my cars.

This is still a worry. The FT86 wasn't a Scion idea. They didn't say 'Hmmm, our products are all based on mediocre performance platforms that don't get any performance respect, so let's ask Toyota to build a genuine sports car for us.' They said 'ZOMG that looks COOL! And since we're the COOL brand, give it to US!!!'

How they market this car can affect the direction of parts available to it. If they go the Scion Nation route, that is bad. If they focus on their 'grassroots' racing that is good. If they do both, that is acceptable.

The side effect of Toyota instigating the vehicle is that unlike the tC, it won't need as much aftermarket mods to be an acceptable performer, so any 'grassroots' racing will improve the car more significantly than the tC was.

Was anyone else able to find reference to this information outside this thread? I've searched high and low. Serious.

My guess is that they wont show any promos on the car until a month or two before the release date. It was the same way when they were going to reveal the frs concept in New York.

I agree 100%

At first I was torn between getting the Scion version or the Subaru Version of the FT86. After I looked at the fairly large aftermarket of parts available for the new TC I decided that I would rather just go TRD everything from the factory and stick with the Scion and the warranty.

Also as others have stated I'm not looking forward to all of the highschool kids driving around in a similar car to mine. I think I might be the only 29 year old rolling around in one lol.

My problem is that I hate subaru's and refuse to buy one, but when I tell my friends about this car the following conversation ensues-

Me - "I can't wait for this car to come out!"
Them - "Who makes it"
(semi-embarassed) "Scion..."
"Oh..." (somewhat disgusted look on their face)
"But its all Toyota and Subaru, just marketed under the Scion name in North America, but everywhere else it's a Toyota!"

I feel like I immediately have to explain the background of the car for them to somewhat believe it won't be a turd of a car.

I just wish it was a toyota here instead but I understand why they are marketing it as Scion. Scion just has a bad connotation but making it Toyota I think would increase the price so it's a double-edged sword. Either way it sucks.

Same here!

On a side note, it's so much better for those of us who DO know how great this car will be, it will almost be a hidden gem in the automotive market

That's my hope, that I can say "I had that car before it was 'cool'!"

^ - never thought of that...that could be really good thing...but at the same time the money you save in getting parts from the junk yard, you pay back in a higher insurance

Toyota owners under warranty and people who visit Toyota dealerships would see Scion, but otherwise how would they know? It's a relatively new brand with relatively few cars.

I see a TON of Scions in SoCal....mostly Xb's and TC's
