That's interesting, at least they're dedicated to heritage.

Dimman 09-29-2011 06:21 PM

God, if they make any remote association between those cars and the 'Scion Nation', I will not be happy.

iirc isn't that for UK? As US, I haven't heard bout the any commercial yet

Honestly, i think they assume people know Scion is part of Toyota. And besides, what better way to explain that "86" symbol on the side of the car than to actually show some AE86's so people don't go "umm, wut?" when they see it.

Also, it's not like Scion has any "heritage", so they should obviously come in with Toyota's collection of notable sports cars

I say, GO GO GO!

Yeah, I see your point. I just hope dumb kids don't see the supra there and say "O snap, this is the new supra, I have to go buy it!" I want this car to sell well enough to keep production going, but I don't want to see one on the road every 5 seconds by every 16-year-old either.

Uh oh. How are they picking the cars for the shoot? My moms got a beautiful MR2 that would be awesome to see on this commercial :P

I'm in the same boat as you BTW. The last thing I want, is to drive by my old high school, and have new-b's crashing these things every 5 feet in the parking lot...

Well if you watch again Jack Hollis press confirence in NYIAS he made sure and pointed out that scion is part of toyota

"The FR-S Concept… however… is most closely related to… and really inspired by… the AE86 Corolla…known by its true fans as the “hachi-roku…” which means 8-6 in Japanese.

The AE86 didn’t rely on brute horsepower… but instead a remarkable combination of a lightweight design… manageable power and great balance. It made its way into almost every genre of racing from grip to drift… and from the circuit to mountain roads."

"You’re probably already pretty familiar with cars like the Toyota 2000GT… the MR-2… the Celica All Trac Turbo… and my personal favorite…the Supra Turbo."

Inspired by the AE86, the FR-S is built around the core goal of achieving “pure balance,” which begins with the strategic placement of a flat 2.0-liter boxer engine in a front-engine, rear-wheel drive configuration. The engine’s compact size and shape allows the FR-S’ powertrain to be mounted lower and further back towards the rear, giving the car a lower center of gravity and a dynamically favorable front-to-rear weight ratio.
