You could get a sub 100k mile car in good condition between $8-10k back then. Now you can't touch that unless it's over $20k minimum.

I noticed, I was talking with a fellow in Houston about getting his m3 off him. I forget the year but it had about 80k on it with full service records for about $22k. I just couldn't spend that for a car I just wanted to rip on.
So I ended up buying a 325i very similar to a cursed e30 I used to have. |

Big wing/Spoiler and Splitter. The "copper" is actually copper vinyl wrap.
I'll have more info tomorrow as when I got my phone call into the group, the "evening" had already started if you catch my 'drift' (pun intended). The brakes are stock and they are working great, won't be a problem for the whole 25 hours. Car is roughly 2500lbs and makes 260rwhp on a well built M20. Tires are 225/45/15 Hoosier R6's and the team is really struggling to get heat into them which is difficult for practice and qualifying but bodes well for endurance racing. I think the suspension is from JRZ. I will make it to track at about 6pm tomorrow and I will update the blog then with more info about the car. BTW: there's a couple Toyobaru's there as well but got no info about them other than they think they're both stock because they're not fast in a straight line. Anywho, more to come. |

This image just came across my inbox... Anyone know who's this is?
It's running the 25 as well. ![]() 2012-12-06_22-09-15_424 by Team ORP, on Flickr edit: I tried reading the names on the rear window but can't make them out. |

Those are really good numbers out of a M20 motor. Very capable, even when boosted to the 20+psi range with just some ARP headstuds and thicker headgasket.

This is the thing that confused me about you guys buying an older M3 to mod.
From my experience with BMW modders, you guys take these cars and strip the shit out of them. Change the engine, tranny, exhaust, intake and stripping the interior but for some reason you have to buy an M3? Why don't you buy a run of the mill 3 series from the same era and mod the fuck out of it? Once you take out the engine of an M3, it isn't an M3 to me anymore its more of a 3 series. I presented this same question to someone who did the exact same thing and their answer was "Uh..." |

But remember, there are plenty of purists who keep their M3's totally original down to the tires. So it balances out. |

That sucks. Hope they can get things back together quickly.
There is always a huge debate about swapping motors in the E30 M3. It's happening more so now. But in the end, it's their own personal car and money. They can do whatever they want. Just brings up the value of mine!

I'd personally keep the S14 in the M3. I really, really want one someday. From what I hear, they're very expensive cars to own/fix but I figure I'd just garage it anyway. Hopefully within the next few years I can figure it out.

Is the same true of the M42? I've thought about bolting a turbo to it...
My 318is is now in primer and I just replaced the upper and lower timing cover gaskets, front main seal, oil pan and gasket, water pump and thermostat. It took 3 cans of brake cleaner and a toothbrush to get all the sludge off the front timing cover and upper oil pan! Sucks that the P.O. didn't just fix the leak when it started. I'm going up tomorrow to install a 16" electric cooling fan and a custom exhaust with a Magnaflow muffler and resonator. As soon as the mechanicals are sorted my friend can spray it with new paint and clear coat. Should hopefully be done this weekend!
