255 is too little for that width?

Nah, it's not that bad. Mild stretch.

255-285mm on 9.5".

Keep in mind the increased weight of a 9.5 vs 8.5, as well as tire weight increase. If you don't care then no worries.

Fwiw, i run a 255 on a 9.5" TE37 on the front of my Z33.

I am just seeing a trend of wide wheels/tires on 86's. Just busting some balls. It's all good.

Performance is the number one goal. I just really liked the look of the 18s.

Also looking at 17x9 +35 instead. 255 good for that though?

I editted to add more info. Please re-read.

255 on 17x9 is perfect imo.

Keep weight in mind as to not potentially ruin the feel of the car. It's always a tradeoff between weight and grip. I tend to lean more towards the extra grip & take the weight penalty.

If weight is truly important get a stickier tire in 215 and mount it on a 7" wide wheel.

Check the specs on the tire/wheel you want to run. Report back with weight.

Can someone help me here?
Should the offset of the front tires be more than the back?
or the other way around? And will these wheels fit with the stock hight and if i lowered the car an inch (maybe a little more?)

Well the combo of 17x9 RPF1s and say 245 or 255 Hankook Ventus RS3 or Dunlop Star Spec equal about the same wheel/tire weight as stock, but with an additional 2 inches of rim width .

Show me (us) the numbers.

Ps i agree with you.. Just want others to learn so we don't have to repeat.

Where i was going with this:

Rpf1 in 17x7 or 17x8 weighs less than 17x9.
D1 star spec in 215/xx weighs less than 245/xx or 255/xx.

In other words if you REALLY cared about weight...

Of course extra grip doesn't hurt. And wider does look better.

peace

I guess that brings up the point of where is the break-even between weight and grip?

In the case of the RPF1/Star Specs

17x8 according to TR weighs 15.6 lbs
17x9 based on research around the internets weighs 15.9 lbs

Assuming 225 for the 17x8, the Star Specs weigh 26 lbs
Assuming 255 for the 17x9, the Star Specs weigh 28 lbs

17x8 total = 41.6 lbs
17x9 total = 43.6 lbs

Stock I believe is ~41 lbs or so.

Compared to stock both of the alternatives should be faster on a track.

Compared to each other, will the 2 lb increase per corner contribute to a slower laptime even though there is more grip?

Obviously this is getting into the nitty gritty, but now I'm curious.

Follow up question.

Why would a +45 be better for handling vs a +35? If a +35 pushes out the wheels further giving the car a wider track, isn't that better for grip?

Excellent question.

In my professional opinion ,grip is more important in your case.

Why does everyone always recommend the narrower offsets then? Many times on this forum alone I've seen that kind of recommendation.
