The only time I will go into the dealer is 5 years after owning the car to get the spark plugs and serpentine belt changed. And I'll be going to a Subaru dealer that is familiar with boxers instead of a Scion dealer.

BTW, doesn't the manual even say to change it the first time at 3500 miles?
this is an excellent point! the simple "fact" is, subaru dealers are very familiar with the ''boxer" as it is their main engine!.this could make a difference as to how well the car gets serviced, both now,and many years down the road!..just sayin'

scion: "yup"

Me: *check my tires to see if its rotated, didn't look like it since only the back tires had these red sticker thingys on them and they were still there....pop open my hood to see oil coolant was still rather low, and my original K&N filter was still there......"so you guys use K&N filters now???"...

Scion: "oh um, we didn't change it yet because you're not at the 7500 mile-interval yet."

I had a long a morning so I didn't wanna bother them and just said ok, but all I can remember thinking was 'these guys called me and said all the work was DONE and my car is ready for PICKUP', when in reality, they meant NOTHING was done and car is ready to be picked up.

so they couldn't just tell me that car wasn't due for its scheduled maintenance yet, but blatantly lie to my face that it was done... sigh*

i meant nothing derogatory in my comments! it is unusual for the "fair" sex to perform maintenance on cars, however it "does" happen, and i thought i would compliment her on doing so!. again,i never meant any ''disrespect",
although i will admit,my words could have been more carefully chosen. i hope this explanation will prove satisfactory!.

I actually did need a special tool to remove my oil filter last weekend... a power drill and a screwdriver. The factory oil filter was screwed on way too tight to take it off by hand. I know, a filter wrench would have done the job but I didn't have one in the right size and it's always fun to do things using what you have at hand.

Anyways yeah I paid $71 in parts to do the oil change myself (plus another $24 for a Fumoto drain valve), but the knowledge that my car remains unmolested by incompetent techs is ... priceless.

Get a three claw oil filter wrench like this one http://www.ebay.com/itm/Car-Auto-Two...dc90c6&vxp=mtr. They are great. Fits almost any size filter.

Yah im doing my own oil change at 1000 miles i am a mechanic im not a lazy one though i triple check my work and make sure everything is clean and no leaks im OCD with stuff so i make sure the customer is happy like id want to be :-D im glad my best friend is the TXM guy at my local dealer ill be requesting him to do all my oil changes after my break in is finished, its cool that he said yah when you bring it in for oil changes and stuff just tell the service writer you want me to do it and it pops right up on his little computer screen in the TXM garage :-D

i need to buy a lift for my garage at my house that would be nice and make things easier hehe. anyone go in for the cricket sound in the HPFP? mine just started to make the noise and teh TSB report says its non detrimental but some say i should have it repaired.

My Subaru dealership informed me that the first oil change should be about 3000 mi. and 7k after. It's sad to hear that y'all are having so many problems.

A couple of weeks after I was at the dealer getting my oil change Scion sent me an online survey to complete about the dealers work. So much "stuff" happened that I could not fit everything in their comment section. I had to call Scion and tell them of my ordeal.
Scion then told me they would forward the survey to the dealer and for me to expect a call from them. My dealer did call me after a few days......right in the middle of dinner. My daughter took the phone call and asked them to call back in 30 minutes. It has been almost a month later and no return call from the dealer.
The dealers concern is evident.
