A suggestion since it sounds as if this is your first rear wheel drive car. Don't assume that you know how to drive... Or that you are instantly going to be an awesome driver.

Get your car into a very large, empty parking lot after a good rain and learn how to counter steer when that rear end steps out on you. Learn what happens when you are cornering hard and you let off the gas or hit the breaks.

Besides teaching yourself how to handle the car well you'll also have a great time

But make sure the lot owner is ok with it. I got the boot when I did it back a few years ago and some places cops intervene.

Of those three, I picked the Genesis Coupe. But if the BRZ does eventually have a factory turbo, that would be my choice by far.

the BRZ still handles feels and responds better the the genesis coupe. regardless of HP.

i like NA response better than turbo response its predictable and you always can readjust, turbos sometimes lag or spike. but yes the turbo will be fancy fancy when it hits the market

im excited for it. i hope TRD makes something nice to compete with it.

maybe a SC version of the FRS?

So I just wanted to put my two cents in on the comparison because I was honestly very surprised when I test drove the Gen Coupe yesterday.

I have owned my Asphalt, automatic FR-S for 4 months now and I've loved it since the day I got it. I decided to have some fun yesterday and go the dealerships on Van Nuys and test drive cars with a buddy. We ended up at Hyundai and the salesman let us drive their only manual R-Spec on the lot.

I must say, it was VERY underwhelming. I was expecting the 74 extras horsies and more torque to throw me in my seat and really be more... thrilling... but it wasn't. Sure there was more power, but nothing mind blowing. The steering feel and throttle response felt numb (compared to the FR-S) and the shifting was clunky. The interior was nice but not leagues ahead of the FR-S (I personally like the simplicity and practicality of the FR-S's interior). I placed my foot to the floor right when I launched in 1st and all I could think was that the car felt like a tank. It had more power but it needs to because it feels so damn heavy. Also, the R-Spec tuning is bullsh!t (or maybe the non R-Spec feels even worse) because the suspension (compared to the FR-S) was subpar.

Overall, the Gen Coupe was completely underwhelming... I can't recommend it whatsoever to anyone really... unless they want a slightly smoother ride (which by smoother I mean sluggish). It may be quicker than the FR-S but it sure doesn't feel it.

P.S.: I went by the Subaru dealership to try out the WRX or Sti (if they had one) and I must say, the WRX felt SO cheap. My friend and I both felt like the interior was cheap, plasticy, and felt like a toy. So, for all those people who think the FR-S has a cheap interior, go sit inside a new 2013 WRX and quit complaining.

I'd still pick the brz/frs over all of them, BUT.. It depends if you want the practicality of 4 doors and a hatch or not. The gen coupe was a bust to me based on price and quality of the interior. Might as well get a camaro or mustang gt for the price of a v6 gen coupe. The speed 3 is great, but it depends what you want. A really fast hot hatch or a poor mans lotus?

I have a hard time believing this part especially since you own the automatic FRS/BRZ which sits around 7.7-8 seconds to 60. The GC 2.0T is around 5.7-6 seconds. That is a substantial difference.

I understand your point, but it honestly didn't feel overwhelmingly more powerful. And yes, I may drive an automatic, but who ever said I let the machine decide when it wants to shift. I'm always in manual, shifting when I want; and sure, the clutch may give you a better start, but I sure as hell can outshift the automatic transmission and get up to speed faster. My point is the Gen Coupe FEELS heavy and thus the extra power doesn't do it enough justice. I'd much prefer a lighter car that may take slightly longer to get to 60, but feels nimbler in the process.

Gen Coupe simply feels raw and undefined in handling. As matter of fact, it's horrible. Everything is so imprecise about this car. The chassis feels like it's gonna fall apart, and the gearbox feels dull and confusing. The engineering level of Hyuandai still has a long way to go to catch up with Japanese.

I'm sorry you don't feel the same way. Perhaps your standards are much lower than mine. When someone mentions sportscar, I think of something a bit more dynamic than a "sports-inspired" RWD boat. Don't forget, RWD does NOT = sports. See examples here: Dodge Charger, Dodge Challenger, Lexus SC430, Lincoln LS, etc etc etc. Don't get the two confused.

"A Mazda FWD car is typically more sportier than a Toyota FWD." I won't even go there. Again, you and I have different standards because I would NEVER even consider a FWD (short of the ITR) for sporting purposes. You, obviously, have no qualms buzzing around in your Civic thinking you're in a racecar.

Regardless, I see there are others who see eye to eye with me. See below.

Sounds like the Gen Coupe isn't even up to par with the Camry SE.

I never said my POS torqueless wonder RSX was a true sports car because its far from it but I wouldn't even consider driving your POS torqueless wonder of a S2K. Sure it has a great platform and size but the engine is only respectable at 6500+ rpms. What good is a sports car with a engine that has no guts? I'd rather drive a 370Z Sport or Nismo. Sports cars with great handling/power. The biggest difference between a FRS and a GC really comes down to size and weight. The Camry platform is your typical run of the mill FWD platform with about 63% of the weight on the front and seating for 5. I have been in a Camry and a GC and they feel nothing alike. Sure the GC is not a true sports car mainly because of its size and weight but even if a Camry was 500 lbs lighter it would still be a FWD family vehicle.

But, but, but, our engine is a torqueless wonder, too...
