That said, though, the standard factory audio system is quite decent. Bluetooth was a breeze and I've had no problem using MotionX on my phone with voice turn by turn navi through the car audio so I'm not in a big hurry to upgrade.

I owned an MS3...a 2009. Do not buy that car unless you are 100% happy with how it is stock (power wise). It was the most difficult car I have ever had the displeasure trying to modify, and I don't think they got any easier with the next generation.
I've heard nothing really good or bad about the Genesis Coupe, but have had no time in the car personally, so I can't comment on that. The BRZ would be my objective choice, unless cargo room / # seats/doors is a priority for you. Best handling, best steering feel, lightest, best looking (IMO), and best fuel economy. BTW - just go to your local Subaru dealership and order one that you want...might be easier for you

I would not use Nav as a deciding factor. I picked the BRZ for the Nav (among other things) but end up using my phone's Nav 80% of the time, because of the problems getting a sattelite connection with the car, its regular rerouting when it goes over other roads (thereby thinking I've taken the turn-off), and its generally annoying interface. You'll be better off with aftermarket or your phone. On the other hand, I'm pleased with the other items you get with the BRZ Limited - nice Alcantara seats, and heated seats/mirrors (not sure where you moved to, but nice if you've got back problems or any cold weather), plus climate control. If you don't care about any of those, though, go with the FRS and get an aftermarket nav, or use your phone's, and you'll save money. |

Totally agree...in today's smart-phone era, in-car navigation should not be a deciding factor for your purchase.

You left out the GTI. Good interior, well built, and extensive aftermarket modifications are available.
Used 2009+ with the TSI engine & a K04 turbo upgrade, downpipe, LSD, and an upgraded clutch - would put you at the $25,000 sticker price of the BRZ.

Probably better to wait for the all-new mk7 GTI instead.

IMO...
The key benefit of the MS3 is the size, you have a lot more space if you have a family, and/or do a lot of activities where you need to transport gear (sports, etc). It's also a much easier car to drive if your wife or significant other doesn't get the value of a true rwd sports car. These reasons motivated a friend of mine to go with the MS3- and tbh I cant really fault him for the logic as he has 2 kids and lets be honest, if you think the FRS/BRZ is a good family vehicle you're delusional. I can't really speak on the genesis as I never actually gave it a "serious" look. Although, i was giving it some consideration before the 86 was production ready. The MS3 has a lot of potential in terms of power if you want to go fast, but it also has pretty nasty torque steer even with stock power levels (which can be very annoying if you're used to rwd). It really is more of a question of FRS vs BRZ vs Genesis imo. And a lot of the deciding factors will be personal taste, there's no set x is better than y argument. It depends how much you value power(genesis), value(frs), feel(frs/brz), etc. I wish i could have got the BRZ, but a few thousand dollars more really was a deal breaker for me. My mentality was i'd rather spend the difference getting aftermarket stuff (which is inevitable in any car i own)- and that's how i justified the purchase to the wife lol. Also, we already have a 4d yaris which is our "functional" car so the size of the ms3 didn't really add value to us- but if we could only have 1 car, it wouldn't be a "2 seater". |
