I vary back and forth. When I want fun, I do e85. Normally I run pump though.

I'm still waiting for John to give me the OK to post the dynos. I have the JPGs ready to go.

@2forme. . what did you do to John? Did you manage to actually tire out the man that never sleeps because he hasn't posted since this morning. LOL.

I have an e85 station by me, but its the ONLY one in the area, so I will run it probably when the map switching is released. I like the gas mileage though so i wish we could make that power on pump.

That dude is relentless when he's trying to get something done. We didn't leave the dyno until almost 1130. I left his place at 1230 and didn't get home until 3. Been up since 9.

So still no dyno sheets on stock ECUs with the intakes for comparative studies? And what's your take on the "truth" of the matter with AIRAID now?

Alright, I've decided to go ahead and post some dynos. I think John is knocked out right now, anyway.

DISCLAIMER: We did 60 runs yesterday. I tried my best to choose the best ones for both consistency and power. I'm sure John will go through them and post others if he deems them appropriate. We followed the same procedure for each scenario. John adjusted tunes to get the most out of it. I'd also like to note, that these aren't necessarily the HIGHEST power we made on each scenario. Where applicable, I tried to post runs with matching AFR for a good solid comparison. Anyone can lean out a map and make more power

So, first we will start off on stock tune comparison. The next dyno shows the stock intake vs aFe intake on a stock tune. Peak power was a bit of a disappointment, only 3 whp, but it wasn't very consistent up high... so even that might not be a "true" 3whp.

The next dyno shows aFe vs Stock on STG1 tunes. The aFe DID need adjustment as the MAF placement (right after a bend) messed with the calibration. On this dyno, you will see gains of the intake are more consistent, but still nothing to write home about. It picked up more peak torque than HP.

Moving on, here is a comparison for removing the snorkel. We saw immediate gains from removing the snorkel. Also, my snorkel was modified as you'll see in the these pictures.

For anyone NOT using the stock intake, I'd highly suggest just removing it all together.

Moving on, it's time to show some of that "placebo" effect that someone so eloquently spouted off in some other thread. The claim was that tunes don't do anything and any gains are just a result of the "placebo" effect. We're lucky, because I managed to dyno some placebo.

Here are two dynos showing stock tunes vs STG1 tunes on both intakes.

So, as you can clearly see, placebo has succesfully lessened the dip by over 500 RPM while making as much as 12-13 ft lbs in some areas. All while maintaining a rock solid AFR.

And now, the good stuff. Corn juice. This is where the intake might be a bit worthwhile. The cornjuice definitely preferred the aFe over stock.

And for those who want a direct comparison of my baseline (Stock tune, stock intake w/o snorkel, SRT exhaust) to the final result...

In all honesty, this set will make 200whp (or already makes over that if you prefer STD correction). It hit 199 on run number 59, so the engine was already pretty damn heated up. On a nice cool run, I wouldn't be surprised to see over 200. The dyno looks like it stopped short because the tach lead fell off near the end of the run.

Again, my ONLY power mods are a Perrin pulley (if you count that), SRT header back exhaust, and @Visconti tune, and maybe a little farming fuel in there as well. Still 199 and 162 isn't that bad.

I'll be writing a full blown review of the aFe vs the AIRAID very soon, so look out for that thread.

A couple of horsepower is well within the margin for error, so frankly what this shows is that buying an aftermarket intake FOR THE POWER GAINS is a total, unmitigated waste.

To me, the bang for buck is E85 and so you need a Visconti tune for that reason alone.

Yea, especially without a tune. The gains were pretty consistent with the corn juice though. On the stock intake, 195 was pretty much as high as it wanted it to go.

I'd also like to debunk the whole "ECU reset yields phantom gains" thing. I showed up to the dyno with over 200 miles logged on the flash and the intake and it made the same power through the first couple of runs as it did after a fresh reset.

Looking forward to more updates!... Curious to see how AIRAID performs with tune, as the visconti tune was the next thing on my to-do list .
