yeah, I agree, can we claim parts? I would like to grab the bottom half of the driver's side interior, I kind of man handled mine a bit too rough...i gotta go easy on my guns (i got none, lol).

btw, itjust to be clear it's the parts under the steering wheel.

I would gladly pay for it. PM me if they decide to sell the parts.

Keep an eye out on our local on-line trade site www.trademe.co.nz, stuff usually comes up there. I live in Auckland, so I can't really go to the wreckers in person, but if it pops up on there I may be able to arrange shipping overseas.

If it appears on turners.co.nz, I can't help you as I don't really wish to purchase an entire car.

If I were the salesman the first words out of my mouth would have been: "so, are we financing or paying cash?".

Why? It was probably the easiest sale he made all year.

if the driver signed the insurance form, all he'll be paying is around ~$1500 excess... expensive test drive

I didn't actually sign anything for my test drive - I just had a look with the salesperson and we punched out some nice corners around the subrurb.

I had to sign a log just to let them know who was driving the car at the time incase you get a speeding fine or something lol. No waiver or clause etc though.

Not in NZ. Every car dealer has some kind of insurance for this type of thing. Even a budget car dealer would have.

If the car dealer didn't, they would/should be more concerned about the test driver claiming damages from them; but again they would have insurance for that as well.

As previously stated, the excess is $2k. The form you sign isn't an insurance form, it is form stating that you are aware that the car you are about to drive has a certain excess payable by you if something happens where the dealer is required to make a claim.

If you didn't sign this, it means that particular dealer either has an insurance policy with a lower/nil excess or they are simply lazy.

If an incident happened, without this type of form signed, the dealer might have to pay some of the excess. A solicitor (the test driver's solicitor) would argue that the $2k excess on the insurance policy only exists as the dealer was seeking a more affordable policy, and that that is not their clients fault, and that their client owes nothing. That is why the dealer gets you to sign that form, so that they can prove that you were aware of the excess and you agreed to pay it should the need arise. Also, that you agree to pay any speeding fines, yada yada. Again for the same reason, to prove that you knew you are liable.
