When switching (or installing) a new ECU, don't you have to do something with coding the key/immobiliser?

If this needs to be done at a dealer, it might be 'odd' that you are buying a new ECU rather than getting one under warranty.

I don't think this will work. The Ecu's are serialized, and the dealer could tell if you didn't have the proper serial on the ECU.

In addition to the Key immobilizer that mungewell mentioned, and the data that wouldn't match if you did get it working, the dealer would be able to tell something was fishy.

Having another stock ecu is good idea but it wont work, because each time you replaced your ecu you to have pair them with your car or else the immobilizer will kick in and you wont be able to start your car

not to mention, a stock ECU costs what, $1200-1500? How big of a warranty claim are you anticipating to rationalize spending that kind of money preemptively? I'd just put the money you were going to spend on a new ECU in the bank to cover any non-warrantied repairs.
