And on a side note, someone who is clearly as mature as you knows that a car is probably one of the worst "investments" one can make so let loose a little, throw on some steelies with shit tires and go to a local track day drift session but be careful because you might have some fun.
I prefer to take care of my car which is indeed an investment of time, money and pride. If I wanted to drift I would buy a beater. Drifting shows no purpose other than showing off. If you want to drift your car fine with me. Just stay off my streets!

i Drive the MT and i have drove the AT.. i Really loved the quick shifting you get with the paddle shifters. Plus the downshifting was brilliant.. Sounds good also..I do have to say. iv had the car a week now with the MT and still having problems smoothly shifting..Still letting go of the pedal to fast i guess.. why is it so hard to get use to !

It's a shame about Ferrari not offering manuals, but the Porsches that count are exclusively manual (gt3, gt3 rs, gt3 rs 4.0, gt2 rs). Again, all of those new auto Porsches and Ferraris are dual clutch transmissions.

As far as desirability, just did a quick search on cars.com for fr-s in a 500 mile radius of me and there were 38 autos available and 1 manual car available showing on the first page of the results with the remaining cars not listing the transmission type. That right there tells me there is an abundance of automatic cars sitting around and the manuals are sold much quicker and in short supply. I also recall seeing a stat somewhere that the manual take rate for this car was over 70%. I'm just happy to see that stat indicating the demographic this car is attracting.

Fuel economy was a big part in deciding on what car I was going to get, however it still had to be sporty, 30MPG just does cut it, 34MPG honestly was the lowest I would consider, that's why I ruled out the Genesis, Mustang, Camaro and Challenger from my list of cars I was looking at.

Aside from fuel economy an AT is just more practical, with stop and go traffic, the ability to use a remote starter, and as someone else mentioned holding a girlfriend's hand when driving. I have my BRZ in manual mode probably 90% of the time, but I get to keep all the advantages of the AT whenever I want them.
ahhh! the many attributes of the almighty "slush box" he! he! he!
unfortunately,in THIS car,especially,THIS car,the 'fun"experience of total
control of the vehicle IS the "deal maker" for me! in MY view,a "slush box" is just something else to go wrong over time! damn thing really brings nothin' to the table,EXCEPT to possibly develop issues over a period of time, whereas
there is really nothing to go wrong with a "direct drive" tranny, except maybe a "throw-out" bearing after a very long, long time, and this can really only happen if ya "ride" the clutch.paddle shifters? poor substitute for a real manual! not even close! gotta keep in mind, when ya do the "slush" thing,ya give up control of the car to a computer, and that sure as hell is NO fun in my book!..just sayin'..getting my 6 speed (m.t.)
very soon!

without a doubt! slush box is STILL a "slush box!" limited control!

The ironic thing is all of you guys who paid extra for the auto have a far less desirable car than the cheaper manual transmission cars. Point proven by all the auto fr-S's sitting around on lots all over the country while there is a shortage of manual cars. Have fun selling your cars to all the 16 year old girls in the future :-)

yes! this is 'dead nuts" accurate too!.check the 'net lately?
at least here in new england, dealers DO HAVE the car,BUT 9 out of 10
of 'em are '"slush boxes" what he says is really very accurate, and it's because
MOST people who are going to buy this car WILL get the m.t for ALL the right reasons! this a sports car!,NOT a "pig" s.u.v. just sayin'

I miss the interaction but driving in the AT in M mode is my joy.
And for the fact I won't have to buy a clutch before my car hits 30K all I can say is enjoy the MT while you can, then get your wallet ready.
this is "bull shit!" if you don't "ride" a clutch,yo will seldom ,if EVER have any problems with it!.can't say the same for the 'slush" because lots more moving parts to break over time!

if you look at Aisin web site , if you can read you might get a new outlook of the technology involved in the AT. But if not it's cool have some rice PUDDING
