What do you drive - MT or AT?

This could get a little heated :mad0260:.. but which do you drive and why?

Rules:

1. The poll is for your FRS/BRZ/86.. NOT for any other car you drive or which one you like best.

2. Tectronic or paddle shifting does NOT count as MT.. sorry.

BRZ MT. I don't know why. This is my first MT car and I love it.

KRAZYK 07-24-2012 03:02 PM

FRS MT - becasue true manual gives more control and over all more fun out of a car like this.

Makes you feel closer to the car.. and what car enthusiast doesn't want that?!

FR-S MT.
Every time I buy a car with AT, I regretted. So, I'll only buy MT for my life :)

MT, and love it 95% of the time.

The 5% when I want the AT are those cold early mornings where i just want to hold on to my coffee and I only have enough sense to brake, gas, brake, gas, brake, gas... and that's usually when I drive my wife's Corolla :)

MT. I've regretted every AT purchase except for the Lightning. Just personal preference.

AT. I know how to drive a manual (not well, it's been years), but in general prefer not to, especially in traffic here in the DC area. As this car is my DD, it needs to be something I'm comfortable with driving. MT would be fine for a second car/track toy, but I don't have that luxury right now.

For this car, at this time, I prefer to have the versatility of the AT.

Another advantage of AT is I can hold my girl's hand when I drive.

MT - Simply for the added control. Car becomes a better extension of myself. I'd have it no other way - despite the inconveniences in traffic etc.

BRZ AT, and personally I love it.

In the case in the BRZ/FR-S the AT has significantly better fuel economy, the MT's fuel economy is poor given the size/weight of the car an engine, 30MPG highway on a 200hp 2750 pound very aero dynamic car is pretty poor when you consider a 3450 pound mustang that's less aerodynamic with a 305hp v6 gets 29mpg on the highway.

Fuel economy was a big part in deciding on what car I was going to get, however it still had to be sporty, 30MPG just does cut it, 34MPG honestly was the lowest I would consider, that's why I ruled out the Genesis, Mustang, Camaro and Challenger from my list of cars I was looking at.

Aside from fuel economy an AT is just more practical, with stop and go traffic, the ability to use a remote starter, and as someone else mentioned holding a girlfriend's hand when driving. I have my BRZ in manual mode probably 90% of the time, but I get to keep all the advantages of the AT whenever I want them.

FR-S Manual, just feels good.

Raven86 07-24-2012 03:59 PM

AT, its my daily driver and i have to sit in a lot of traffic on my way home from work.

Mburolla 07-24-2012 04:08 PM

I have driven nothing but manual transmissions all my life (42 years old), but I bought an AT FR-S and I have NO regrets! The AT in this car is REALLY good, it totally won me over. I'm done shifting.

AT and leave it in M mode most of the time. When I hit heavy traffic during my ridiculously long commute I throw it into D and enjoy my coffee. Lower revs at highway speed are a nice plus. My last DD would stay over 3k and drone pretty badly - very irritating when I drive 75 miles each way.

I like being able to pick & hold a gear but don't particularly miss having a clutch. I get most of my connection to the car from handling, throttle control, choosing my point in the powerband.

The nice thing about this poll so far is that it seems most people who have picked a transmission are happy with it.
