I know exactly what you are talking about! It only happens to me about 5% of the time and it has to be under hard gas pedal input but I know the sound and the feeling. However I do not have an intake but I do have johns tune. It happens so rarely that sometimes I think I'm just bogging the engine down and its the driver not the engine. Hmmmm

http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=15526

In summary, if I try to open the throttle quickly from a low rpm state, like rolling from 5mph in 1st gear, the car builds revs slowly and begins to bog and jerk near 2000 rpm. It sometimes gets better, and I usually have to let go of the throttle. Progressively opening the throttle is okay.

I haven't had a chance to contact John about this since I know he is a busy man. I can't say for sure if it's related to the tune or the intake, or both because I'm not usually in a situation where I need to floor it from a really low rpm state.

Doesn't sound as 'mean' as the custom CAI V2 that I made. It does sound 'different', not as deep of a growl as I would like, but more of a kazoo type sound IMO. However, nonetheless a good system for the money. It's a keeper and will remain on my car.

Hello xcelir8brz,

Thanks for the feedback and the picture. Don't forget the pic of your car as well so I can include it in our Facebook album

Thanks,

I just reinstalled the stock intake including the sound tube, minus the "snorkel" since that's a bit more work. The behavior hasn't really changed much. I should note that the problem is always much worse on hills and it hangs at 2000rpm and jerks around for a longer period of time. To be clear, here's a video with my injen intake, then again with the stock. Please note that the same behavior exists regardless of what mode the traction control is in. Is this the same issue you guys are referring to?

It doesn't look like a huge issue here, but it is in some instances. Also, it maybe just be problem with the car itself in low torque / high load situations. It's not something that happens to me regularly. It happened only to me once a few weeks ago, and again today, so I decided to explore it more.

I left my snorkel in. Did all of the people with the issue take their snorkels out? If your car is still doing it even stock minus the snorkel maybe that's it?

Recieved my intake this afternoon and got it installed on my car this evening. Like others have mentioned, the fit and finish quality of the intake is top notch. I went with the alternate lid and it looks amazing. I took it on a short drive and noted a bit of a growel and maybe a seat of the pants increase in power. I removed the sound tube, but left the snorkel in. I am taking the car to a meet and greet tomorrow in Toledo, so I'll be logging some miles with the new intake.

David, I'll be sure to take some pictures in the daylight of my car and the install and get them posted tomorrow.

Thanks Airaid and AJUSA for making this a great experience thus far!

Installed the AirRaid today. The car growls deeper now, I used to have the k&n filter with stock exhaust. I did not have the bog down issue like other people did, I'm on AT transmission. I think it pulls a little better now too according to my butt dyno

Just curious

My intake won't be here till Tuesday, I have not had any of idle, hard start, or chirping issues. I will also provide video feed back with before and after results.

After seeing John mention a Car with a different intake having the same issues with n without a tune maybe we should starts thread inquiring about who is experiencing these symptoms with any after market intake. this problem based on what john mentioned seems to go beyond just this setup?
Ill answer your questions in the order in which they were asked:

-93 octane
-Nope
-Nope

At one point during development I thought I had lost some gas pedal feedback or gas pedal sensitivity. However, the intake was removed from the car and I drove it a couple hundred more miles back in stock config and the pedal feel/acceleration feel was unchanged.

Im assuming for me it was all in my head, once I put back on the intake at a later date it was all the same. Im sure that my throttle pedal has always been a bit 'laggy' since the day I bought the car and I just try not to think about it, I typically double tap the gas pedal when starting from a stop just to smooth the response out, I think its tied into the accidental gas pedal press safety nanny installed in this car.

I love the production intake though, better finish than the prototypes for obvious reasons, and a bit better sound too.

I think if you are honestly having problems with the intake on your car, remove it see if the car returns to normal.

Im just glad when I found this thread that you guys are jumping all over AIRAID, as their product and service is top-notch among the industry. If a legitimate problem can be identified as being the fault of the intake specifically, Im sure they will help to resolve your issues because they are pretty kick-ass like that.
I've got >800 miles on this intake already, 10k miles on the car itself. There is a very big difference between an engine bogging and a pedal that lost sensitivity.

I was in traffic today, rolling at about 2k rpm in first gear. I attempted to change lanes and I gave it a bit more then half throttle. The car fell on its face. The engine shuddered, as though it was choked. I had no power, so I backed off the throttle. It was about 85* and moderately humid at the time.

I dont have the sound tube, I don't have the snorkel. Aside from the intake, the only engine mods I have is a Perrin crank pulley and Johns Stage 1 tune. I've never had this happen with the stock intake. I plan on flashing the OEM tune back on the car and seeing how it reacts.

And I want to make this VERY clear, since there seems to be a misunderstanding among some of those posting in here - I am not badmouthing the intake, Airaid, AJUSA, or Keith. This is a feedback thread, and I am only posting an issue that I noticed after I installed this product. Whatever the culprit is, I have no doubt in my mind that it will be fixed accordingly.

This behavior is what made me notice the bogging issue in the first place. I had originally thought the lack of low end was just the ecu learning, then it started falling flat on its face.

For reference, I don't hiave the sound tube or snorkel. Not sure if it's related though, because I reinstalled the stock intake without either and didn't have the problem, nor the bog.

Out of curiosity, how many units have been shipped to customers?

I think a new thread might be in order. Especially if Injen intake owners are experiencing similar problems.

I've sent my bog logs to John so he should be able to offer some insight as to what the car is doing.

Just an update to my post at http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showp...&postcount=102 - I received the correct fitting intake tube this morning. AIRAID overnighted it UPS and on a Saturday delivery. This is outstanding customer service. They really did right by me.

A quick 5 mins later and I got it fit in. I'll drive around later today to give everyone my thoughts on how it performs.

AIRAID and AJUSA, as far as I'm concerned, have been A1 throughout this purchase.
