Just open your mind a bit and stop pretending this thread is an Apple/Microsoft fanboy debate...

I still think it's a throwback styling queue to the original and that it is more than coincidence. I'd love to ask the designer.
It's still stretching it to say how the two are similar. I doubt there's any design cues there. Usually when something is a "spiritual successor" to something, it's just a marketing tactic to connect to an old brand to increase hype/sales. Just like everyone here, I highly respect the AE86, but in my opinion, Toyota really shouldn't be even be claiming that the car is inspired by it because mechanically its 99% a Subaru (which to me, is what matters most). Again, just my opinion.

I think the 1987 Corolla GT-S's in the states used that digital tach.

I always thought it was kinda funny how the S2K and AE86 Corolla Digital tach were so similar .

People have done so in texas. I believe you can.

That said, I seem to be the only one who's noticed the center console sides of the ae86 and ft86 are identical.

Urgh... I was just at Summit point and saw 3 AE86s. Friend in Gaithersburg is restoring one right now. It can't be that hard to get, it'll be harder finding someone who has it in good condition willing to part with it.

People retrofit them, but I have never seen one come stock in any of the GTS USDM models.

That is one weird inefficient looking intake. I think the Fr-S improved on this

Yeah it's heavier and the gearing is a little wonky, but I'd daily drive it so it wouldn't bother me as much. It has taller highway gearing and a nice power delivery over the sluggish N/A. It's irrelevant, because I'm getting a BRZ instead of another old-ass Toyota!

That's just crazy talk.

This Subaru has plenty of Subaru heritage, from its Subaru chassis to its weird Subaru bolt pattern, the heritage is there.

i hardly think having a chassis or stupid bolt patterns would be a requisite for having heritage. im not saying subaru doesnt know what they are doing
