LOL at you guys.
They sell it as being inspired by the original AE86, and here is another example of a layout that looks like it was inspired by the original and you disbelieve and try to compare it to an S2K or RX8... LOL.

It is a good looking Brat, that is for sure.

Yep. Centered tach is a hallmark of STI versions of subarus.

There are plenty of Toyota and Subaru models that use a centered tach, and other cars for that matter. I doubt they were drawing on one specific model when they did it.

So since that car is over 25 years old, can someone legally import it to the US, register it, and drive it around?

Are you blind, you legitimately think those 2 cluster are obviously related?

im sure you can but the 25 years makes no difference. before they got shut down motorex imported skylines and registered them as kit cars. so it is possible by some means but they still have to be smogged, anything after 76 is req smog...at least in ca but you are not in ca so idk

I'm from the East Bay, don't live there anymore obviously. I hated the whole smog thing, luckily here in MA they don't require it. All they require is a safety inspection, so the car would have to be specially registered as a kit car or something like that. The US really needs to lift import laws on vehicles and just let people import whatever they want and drive it. As long as you have insurance, I don't see what the big deal is.

Driftartist doesn't know what he is talking about.

You can easily import and register that car now that it is over 25. I repeat, the paperwork for that is EASY.
