The plugged their device into my OBD and the system returned a fail result. There was no serial number entry or entry about pulley size or CARB number. Its just straight from the OBD to the DMV.

They're supposed to lookup the EO. If their scanner is returning a fail, then you have something in your system that is not entering readiness.

Everything was in the ready state according to my obd reader and theirs. They showed me there was no where in the system to enter an EO number. We tried everything.

I'm in the same boat. I have a Vortech carb legal supercharger that I bought used from someone. I've called Vortech, gave them the serial numbers of the supercharger and they told me they won't give me the tune because the supercharger was originally sold for a 2013 frs and mine is a 2016.

I think my solution going to be, pulling all the Vortech crap off my car and get rid of it.
Then make sure to never give my money to them again for future builds.

For the time being, are people still able to pass smog by swapping back their headers to stock, flashing from their custom tune to stock, and driving for a while to ensure the system is "ready"?

Looking to swap in an aftermarket header and pair it with a custom EcuTek e-tune from CSG. My car's a 2019, so I won't have to smog for years but I intend to keep this car for a while. Having said that, I know it hard to predict if/how emission standards will change in another 4 years.

I thought the law was 5 years after purchase for smog inspection. Starting 2019 there was change to being able to pay a smog abatement and defer inspection for 8 years. Hope that I’m ready to move on from this car by then.

Yes swap flash to stick and put some miles works.

It’s been 8 years for the first smog for new cars for about a decade now, no fees.

Just trying to contribute:

I went to a smog place, the guy would fail me for the intake tube. Mishimoto Silicon Induction Hose "needs" a carb number. I have it attached to stock air intake, just the hose was replaced.

I dont know if thats necessarily true by law but Mishimoto does not provide one, and your smog guy will probably think the same

That would be correct. Its after the MAF so would need CARB EO. No elbow has it afaik

Ignorant question incoming...
I don't have to take the visual portion of the smog test, but I read the first page and it sounds like I have to take off my ACE 350 header and put my OEM header and ECU back to pass? If I don't have to do a visual inspection, is it a possible to have a tune that passes SMOG while keeping the aftermarket header on? Thanks for answering my dumb question.

As long as there are no CEL's on you should be good to go without considering a visual inspection. The only thing I can think of is if the OBDII readiness check doesn't pick up of the secondary o2 sensor, generally disabled on tunes, then you might have an issue.

HOw do you not have to do the visual? What will they be checking exactly then? Just plugging into the OBD?

That last part will be the problem. It won't pass with a tune if they plug into it.

He is in TN. In Idaho they used to do OBD only check, no visual. They didn't even open the hood. I would pass with JRSC, flex fuel kit, and custom tune.

Thankfully Idaho stopped doing even that. 98% of cars passed the first time, so they rightfully decided the program was a waste of money. So now, no more smog checks.

If I was in Cali I would have to remove flex kit, change injectors, fuel pump, and load CARB tune each time.

Unless things have changed as of recent, I've passed with previous cars on a tune. Hondata Flashpro - before the CARB tunes came out - but all readiness monitors were active.
