I change wheels and tires about 40 times per year. I've done this for a long time. Swapping pads is no big deal. I know this. Admittedly, this is a bit of an experiment. But again, a couple guys that know a lot more than I do suggested this route, so I'm willing to try it. And the CP compound isn't your typical pad that is advertised as dual-duty.

Planning on doing Ferodo DS2500 pads in the spring before track season along with rotors and fluid.

Has anyone found steel braided lines worthwhile? I did the above upgrade to my mini last year along with lines and the brakes feel amazing, really stiff and responsive.

The Z23 pads are a Carbon-Fiber Ceramic formula that offer great dust-free braking performance. This kit is designed for increased braking power for a daily-driven car, truck, SUV or crossover. The Z26, on the other hand is designed for extreme street braking performance on high performance vehicles.

No. Master cylinder brace does more.

The factory lines are braided internally and they're new. Maybe worthwhile upgrading in years when the factory lines have had a lot of cycling/stretching of the braids.

With that said what's the benefit of aftermarket exposed braided lines over replacing with OEM?

Seems like more of a drawback as they generally require more attention.

The DS2500 is NOT a track pad. Unless you're an absolute novice with zero experience, you will likely outgrow the pad very quickly if not just up front.

If you like Ferodos, consider their actual track pads for track use.

If you want to dual duty with a very mildly modified car, go CP.

The car is going to be a trackable daily, and until I get a top load caliper I'd prefer to use a dual purpose pad.

The compound should be fine in a car this light running 200tw tires.

FWIW, changing pads with the OEM front caliper is no more difficult or time consuming than with an AP Sprint or Endurance kit caliper (8350).

That's a rather dangerous statement.

I run Ferodos DS2500 on the street and find them great for street use, but I can confirm they are not holding up to any substantial track use even on 300TW tires. My experience is that while they can « survive « the track environment, they degrade quicker and can start to fade and will not offer the consistency and confidence of a dedicated track pad, and won’t be money well Invested imho for any serious track use.

I’d offer they would be fine for a novice trying a one time hpde, but for anyone with track driving experience or wanting to do multiple days a year should move to a dedicated track pad. Last season I used Ferodo DS1.11 during the season and summer, and put back the ds2500 after the season was done. A track pad like the ds1.11 is in a complete different class in terms of consistency and safety, with no fading. Just as a reference, the burn in sequence on the ds1.11 requires about 26-30 back to back hard stops from about 100km/h to heat them up, whereas on a street pads you’ll need about 10stops.

My experience with keeping the ds1.11 on the street in summer is that they squeal a little after the bed-in layer wears off, but by doing another burnishing they become quiet again. Since I don’t drive as much these days, that was fine for me. Cold bite was plenty fine. But I would not run those only for daily driving due to noise. I find the ds2500 have more than enough bite on the street and can last for years.

Otherwise for track driving, higher temp (and fresh) brake fluid is a must in my book and stainless braided lines strongly recommended for safety. For street driving only however, as others have said, the stock setup is more than adequate, but just throwing a set of DS2500 for more initial bite can be nice for people who prefer a stronger initial bite feel. That’s more a personal preference for street use imho.

Hope this helps.

Cheers

Guys have melted down far stouter pads then the D2500 on 200TW tires.

There is also a huge discrepancy in performance in the 200TW category. We talking RS4 or a "super 200" ?
