Yes.

Any full synthetic oil of the appropriate weight will be probably fine. I use Mobil 1 full synthetic on my gen1. I believe API-SP is the latest/best standard, so look for that on the back in a little circular logo.

Okay cool thanks. Just a few questions if you don’t mind, what things do I need as in special pieces/parts to perform the oil change? I honestly thought all I needed to do was change the oil lol but now I see that I need more things. Obviously I’ve never changed the oil myself but I would like to learn how to.

Drain plug washer, a funnel, a oil container to drain into, filter, and maybe a filter wrench/socket.

For the factory specified oil filter, does anyone have the specifications?
Primarily I'm interested in the bypass pressure rating.
There's room for a much taller oil filter.
Anyone know of one that meets the bypass pressure range?

I just checked my BRZ 2023 engine after a service. I usually check for oil spills.

This time I noticed the oil filter looks smaller.

The oil filter they invoiced me for is a 15208aa170 but they installed a 15208aa160.

Also, the oil level is 12mm over full level.

I went back to the Subaru Dealer where they replaced the oil filter on the spot. Apparently it was an issue with a pick list that is now fixed.

They also spent time discussing and showing me how to check the oil level correctly.

They didn't seem concerned about the oil level being a bit over max.

It seems the car being on flat level surface, the engine being hot or cold and a settling period is enough to vary results that being a couple of millimeters over full is OK.

The guy also spent quite a bit of time discussing tyre pressures as there was some concern about maximizing tyre life on the fronts.

Overall, after the initial error, I can't complain about how helpful the team were.

The settling period takes a long time on this engine. I wait 30 minutes after I change my oil to check. That is why your oil level is high. The other option is to premeasure the oil.
