Oil Filter

Is the oil filter same as Forester? Does anyone have the part number?

Go pop your hood and get the number. It's printed right on the side.

Here's the part number. I ordered it from that site but not trying to push them - I just couldn't find anything aftermarket at the time.

The right parts number for the 22 BRZ is 15208AA170, and according to subaru’s service is same as wrx

Does the oil pan plug use a crush washer? I don't see one in the parts blow up.

Yes. I see it in the engine section under oil pan, and also in the maintenance section right next to the drain plug.

The car came without, but on the manual is listed as optional. I installed for piece of mind, used from gen1.

yours might be painted/glued on to your drain bolt or pan, so the washer is "missing"....

I had this issue with my 2013

Optional is the replacement of it, not its presence.

Probably it. I replaced both washer and plug on the first change. Makes sense

I had to use a dental tool to remove my washer. Which was nearly invisible.

I’ve never changed my oil myself but I just hit 1k miles in my brz. So, do I always change the oil filter when I change the oil and also, what oil do you recommend?

The little washer gets painted over at the factory so it sticks to the drain plug. Use a small screwdriver or pick to get it off. Make sure you don’t go crazy and score the plug.

I should also mention, oil was changed at 600 or so miles and had a decent number of small chunks and quite a bit of metal flakes/glitter so I’d highly recommend doing it before 1000 miles.
