Teach the wife! I taught my gf how to drive a manual 4 years ago when she bought her tC.

The FR-S is her car in fact - lucky I taught her well and the only thing she asked for was 1. had to be red, 2. had to be MT.

^ lol, three pedal minimum... nice.

I went for a manual. I bought this car as a daily driver, and typically my DDs are auto, while the weekend cars are manual. However, with this car, I waited the extra time to get a manual. I just couldn't picture driving this car with anything else.

I will say this though, I will not rag on anyone for getting an auto... This car has the best working and most involving automatic I have ever driven. I really don't think it would take too much away from the experience. Yes, I have driven both.

I've driven nothing but MT cars my whole existence. WRX, Sentra Spec V, 300 ZX and a Tiburon (I was young and dumb). I didn't preorder my BRZ, I just lucked out and they had an AT at the dealer. I saw it and was all bummed it wasn't MT. But I took it for a test drive anyways and fell in love. The shifts are so quick, I don't think I could keep up with a MT. I feel like I lost very little control of the car. Rev matches are beautiful, it'll let you go down plenty of gears at once, and the paddles are pretty fun. The only thing I would have liked better about the MT is that I have way more practice launching a car like that.

I do this every time I drive an auto as well.

My first car was an auto, but every car since has been manual, so I gotta be honest, I didn't give the AT a thought.

AT. MT is fun, and all, but it is a 20th century technology. I like to track and do autocross. Having a strong karting background, I left foot brake.

MT will not let you LFB for the turns, and you will lose time moving feet. I know, we are talking tenths of seconds, but this is one of the reasons the F1 drivers who RFB have been slower (read: Rubens).

Shifting is a tertiary act to driving. Taking out shifting, I can move more focus and concentration to identifying the line, measuring the grip, feeling the slip, threshold braking, etc.

I love manual, but I love going fast too, and AT, at least this particular one, makes this possible.

BRZ Manual. If I lived in an area where I had a lot of stop and go traffic, I would have considered the AT, but I don't.

This right here marks the death of motorsports, i can see maybe a dogbox transmission where you use a clutch for first and then bang the rest, but we are talking about a 25k 200hp toyota/subaru...not a 15 million dollar f1 car that gets a new engine after every race....

I am building an auto supra so i get the whole shifting quicker thing but not for this car, watch the old best motoring vids, they are not shifting into D4 and sliding all around, no, they are doing crazy footwork, smashing gears and having fun, thats what this car is about.

I tried to teach her ,she actually does good about not letting stall out. But gets intimidated, she accidently hit the gas instead of the clutch while stoping once and scarred my son because she went onto the curb he won't let her drive mt, she actually drives mt better then my brother and he's an engineer.

Got the MT, and I've had it in stop and go traffic, and compared to the other MT's i've had it's a lot more forgiving on your left leg...

MT here. I learned on my previous Si and the FR-S is only even better. I like the man and machine bond of the MT. I'm pretty sure I'd feel the same sense of command on the AT, as it is a very good one, but I figure I'll keep doing MT while I'm young and live in an area with relatively decent traffic.

Now, I've gotten pretty good at multi-tasking while having to shift, even with a lady in the car. However, yes I'm going to say it, road head can still be difficult (or should I say awkward) with the divider and your hand on the shifter. Guess you just gotta drop it into a high gear and say fuck it. I did have an amusing conversation with a girl about this and she said "just tell her to do it for you during.." Now, if I could find a girl that talented who could perform and shift on call, I might just have to go ring shopping.

Haha so very true.. I drive a MT as well and I just prefer them over auto. Even with the crazy traffic here in LA.
