WHAT DID YOU DO TO YOUR BRZ TODAY?

Spent the last couple of days doing a full detail and trying out new products with my new Rupes LHR15MKIII. Front end done with Sonax Perfect Finish and topped with a coat of Powerlock+ sealant and Collinite 845 wax. The rest of the car is polished with Rupes Uno Protect AIO and then topped with P&S Beadmaker.




Then installed adjustable struts today. I couldn't stand being underdamped with Eibach Sportlines on the factory struts. Driving around town was fine for the most part but it was still quite disconnected and squirrely. I eventually found that Tein had the EnduraPro Plus line for our platform so figured I try them out before I spend for the CSG Flex A. They feature HBS (Hydraulic Bump Stopper) that's primarily on the Flex A and their Rally line I believe.

The install went fine for the most part, the instructions were terrible as usual but I called Tein USA to clarify some things during the first part of the install. They were very helpful! The front struts were a little bit of a pain to try and tighten the top bolt since the shaft would spin. But there really isn't a way to stop it without special tools at the least. I was able to hold it with my hands using rubber gloves and vice grips while tightening it down. Thankfully the rears I was able to impact no problem.

Even though it has HBS, the regular bump stops are still required. The front installed fine but the rear was an odd one since it would just sit and cover the threads. I had to flip the gold washer that sits on the shaft and put it on top of the bump stop and let it sit that way. But it doesn't have a great grab of the bump stop, so there is a good chance it will slide off. I'll have to get that clarified with Tein but overall the car rides good so far. I currently have it set to 8 clicks from stiff in the rear and 6 in front.



Squeaky clean, next up alignment!

Put Ohlins struts on. And the only way to work in Texas right now. Wait till it cools down a little, about midnight. Then close the garage door and leave the door to the house open blowing A/C in the garage and cooling it off.

Following up on this.

A couple friends and I installed TRD fender extensions and the Toyota OEM window sun visors on Saturday (sorry not exactly "today"). Then on Sunday I wanted to make sure I got some more photos of the car both with the new parts and while it's clean:

I'm honestly not sure how I feel about the visors.

In all honesty, I never planned on buying them..it just sort of happened as a quarantine impulse purchase. I feel very 50/50 about them, so they may come off at some point lol.

Installed new wheels. OZ Ultraleggera 17x8 +48 wrapped in 225/45R17 Falken RT615K+. The taller sidewall and dropping 3.4LB of wheel weight per corner really improved ride quality.

nothing too earth shaking. Removed the complete artificial sound thing in the cabin. Installed a Perrin intake hose(between airbox and MAF housing), and fabbed up a really simple but effective cold air snorkel that fits from the stock airbox to behind the bumper. Made it from aluminum sheet. Unlike the stock one that fits INSIDE the airbox and has a thick lip that deforms inwards, this fits OUTSIDE the airbox fitting. clearly more flow, should the engine need it. And IAT's are very low when driving and still quite good when idling in traffic. They drop very rapidly when you open the throttle too, so I know I'm getting only cold air.

I also washed it really well and applied a coat of Autoglym Super Resin Polish, and it shine!

Funny, I did all of this before I even put my first tank of gas in it

Replaced my clutch pedal assist spring with the MTEC spring hoping that it would help me smoothen out my release. Not sure how I feel about it... It's definitely different to enough that I have to relearn how to be smooth. There is more modulation where the stock clutch spring was numb. I guess this is why people do this mod or remove the spring altogether.

Full disclosure: I learned to drive stick on this car last year, so I'm still somewhat of a novice. However since then I've driven three other manual cars that are each very different, so I do have some frame of reference.

The best thing I ever did to this car was adjust the clutch pedal to grab almost immediately. Made it easier to drive

I went from an Integra GS-R to my FR-S and the difference between the two clutches was dramatic. The helper spring took all of the effort and nuance out of the clutch, which would help beginner drivers buy annoy seasoned veterans. I did eventually change out the stock spring with the MTEC one and it did bring back some of the feel. I also changed out the shifter springs for the MTEC ones and that helped reduce some of the notchiness.

yes! I am far from a manual trans novice and this thing was just not quite right. I adjusted the rod above the gas pedal so that there is a little bit of free play and it grabs closer to the floor. I actually had it start to engage about half an inch off the floor but that was too much. Makes it drive quite a bit more normal now

not that i would use. there's power for the dome light constant-on, and there's power for the mirror. but i would run a 3-conductor off the radio power connections for that function. because i'd rather lose the radio than the dome light or mirror with my garage door buttons in a problem.

She was treated to the sixth year service and new boots.. driving really nice. The tyres quieter than the old set and the bumps are more rounded, however only driven about 20miles (from the garage to home).
