Taking another look at it, I figured it out. I think those dimples on the edge for the static timing. Advancing or retarding the time & those stand for the degrees & limits of advancing & retarding I believe. They used to put little notches on the lip, I'm going to throw out a random guess & say that's what I think it is

Edit: You are most probably right that the Pulley is balanced by itself. We are just looking here for direct and exact confirmation that it is. Quote:

This looks like a cast part that requires balancing on it's own and has to be independent of the internal crank balancing.
To prove this, I suggest you compare a few pulleys. If the balancing drill marks are in different places and vary in depth then it is most certainly as I'd suspect. In no way would that be reliant or matched to a single motor... |

Lol oh ok, well yea. I mean I'm not the engineer or anything. Buy I wouldnt think they'd expect holes to balance out a whole motor. Only 2 small dimples at that.

I definitely agree with your logic. We just want exact confirmation this is the case. Remember, a crank pulley is not something that you replace if ever on an engine. I do know by fact that motor builders sometimes balance pistons, crank, pulley, rods, flywheel and some even go as far as clutch assembly. BUT I have no idea if any car manufacturer would go as far as the pulley on balancing (logically seems they wouldn't). Also, I'm not bashing the pulley as there are nothing but positive reviews about it around the web. I just like having all information at hand. :happy0180:

fyi - If you are like me and got one of the early packaged pulleys. the instructions don't give you torque specs. The newer packaged pulleys give full directions
Spoke to Perrin, they told me to oil the bolt (no brainer) and start at 33 foot pounds. Then from 33 pounds go to 94 pounds (should get at least a 45deg turn from 33 to 94 if not replace your bolt). I would also mention the crank bolt is on there really good a good size cheater bar made life a lot easier. ---- also Perrin said there pulley isn't balanced. (may have already been confirmed, i might have skipped a few posts) --- To anyone still trying to decide on this mod. Its a 100 dollars well spent. A definite improvement in throttle response. |
