Best lightweight battery still useful for DD'ing?

i have not because the battery isn't here yet. It does not have two indentions in the middle of the tray and it has two threaded holes on one side of the it as well. Dimensionally it looks correct however.

I just did this using a cheap 51R battery and parts from JP Parts. What an easy mod. It seems to have saved about five pounds. Thanks for the tip!

It is almost half the weight of the OEM battery and still useful in a daily driven car. It fits perfectly in the BRZ RA's battery holder (Japan spec). So, no need for custom solutions.

Dimensions of the battery:

Any other battery with similar dimensions will work.

Just curious how things went with this. Did you go with a 151R group battery like the one @nikitopo posted? Weight savings? Looks like most 151R batteries are ~24 lbs, but the Yuasa and MagnaPower ones are about 19 lbs.

honestly I haven't ever gotten around to it. Kind of worried it will affect my OEM Audio stereo system and startup with supercharger. I would go with one of the 12-15 lb Braille pieces or odyssey when I go through with it.

Shorai battery, supercharged, with intercooler, and wmi, so two extra pumps and a fail safe gauge, and a scangauge all drawing more power from battery at startup. Over two years, two full winters, zero issues, starts up stronger and faster then oem even without the blower. Seen 20F-100F over that time daily driven. But parked for a week at a time on occasion.

I would never use a braile 6 on a DD might not even have enough CCA to turn over under 35 degrees, and leave you’re lights on for a few mins or don’t start it for a few days and now dead battery.

I was checking this kit in the link. It is not clear how you hold the battery in place. They provide 2 screws, but I cannot tell from the pictures if they are used at all.

I think the only thing that holds the battery in place is that Velcro strap.

A bracket is secured to the tray with the 2 bolts.
That bracket is then secured to the car.

I'm running the PC925. Mostly due to price. I can't justify buying a Braille or Shorai when I can get the 925 for less then 150 bucks and it's still a significant weight savings.

I agree. I have an 11lb Braille battery, and I only drive 3.5 miles to work or the gym. I have a battery tender that is absolutely necessary. If the car sits for 5-7 days then it may not have enough juice to start. Leave the lights on for a few minutes, and the same thing.

I have a smaller/lighter Shorai battery for the motorcycle. I have let that sit for over 6 months with no tender, and it starts up every time. I would suggest an lithium ion or lithium iron battery over an AGM battery.
