Did you see the service bulletin for the DRL disable? Toyota will pay to have the gateway ECM replaced. You'll be able to deactivate your drls and have functioning highbeams.

if you have your DRL's disabled... is there anyway for them to be turned on with the parking lights (first click)?

Re wire it by tapping the power into the parking lights. Or something along those lines.

Did this 2 months ago. I just rewired it and tapped the power from the park light as Godzilla35 mentioned. I like the effect:

Unfortunately you had to do it every time you started the Astro. It may have had that option because the DRLs came on even when the car was in Park.
They can be turned on and off via techstream, you can have your dealer set them for you.. I have the cable and software that does this and many other options on the car.

Thanks. That's just makes me even more aggravated by it. If a tech can do it, the owner should be able to do it without having to buy "extras".

For example, in my 2004 Suburban Z71 you can set every single option such as this using the steering wheel controls and the dash display. Not only that but it will track the options for two different drivers based on the key fob.

Yes, I realize we are talking about two different price classes of cars here (although since I bought the Chevy used I paid about 2/3 more for the FR-S than I did the Suburban) but still it should be an owner selectable option.

They will do it free for you once when you buy the car.. Otherwise it will cost you about $75 to have the dealer set the option. I paid $25 for the cable and downloaded the software from a link on here. Many other options to set via techstream as well, OBDII diags and engine/systems health checks too. Well worth the cost..
