I disagree. Results with the orbiter are negligable, gains are usually just a result of fill in. If you use a mild compound and a soft foam pad and really do your research theres no reason to fear the rotary. People that damage their paint do things that are blatantly foolish like using a wool pad (for minor paintwork), using too high rpm, using a cut polish, holding the polisher at an angle, not taping up trim, polishing a car that hasnt been thoroughly cleaned and clayed, or dry polishing. If a person does their research theres such minimal risk in minor paint correction (swirls, spiderwebs) I don't understand all the fear associated with the rotary. In 5 years of polishing every work day I never once burned paint - and I don't consider myself overly skillful.

But you're right I'm probably being too anal. It's just frustrating to see people avoid certain colors when it really is such a simple fix. If people put a tenth of the time they spend researching mechanical work into researching detailing technique they would see how much money is wasted by taking your car somewhere to get sealed/detailed etc. when it is such simple (rewarding) work.

Is black paint more prone to swirling than white?

Is there any way around it? I love the raven but a car full of swirls isn't much to look at...
It's not more prone to more swirls but it's more visible. Lighter colors like silver don't really show much dirt/swirls/dust/etc but a dark color will

a $300 detail will fully correct the paint any swirls.

(very worth doing every couple of years)

$300 is also enough to buy most of the detailing equipment you need to do it yourself, except you get to keep it.

Just a suggestion. IMO detailing to me is a way to bond to cars, just like oil changes and other regular maintenance. It's fulfilling and, as SeeGul said, rewarding.

Couldn't agree more. I usually spend 2 hours each weekend washing and cleaning my cars. I am helping a detailer do the paint correction and Opti Coat on my car so I can learn the correct way to polish and wash. If I had a garage I would probably skip Opti coating but my car is always outdoors in a very wet environment so it seems to make sense to me.

I agree 100%!!!

Just thought I would mention it as some people are not confident enough to do their own full detail (paint correct, polish, buff etc...)

$300 isn't much to pay someone to spend 6 hours on your car.

Tell him to write a clause for free lifetime repainting if your car gets swirls. See what he says
