Paint and Lights
I have a question about the lights and paint.
Anyone that has owned a Subaru before knows that Subaru tends to make the paint a little thin and tends to chip. anyone know if they will keep having thin paint or will it be more robust? Second question Subaru when you turn the car off with the head lights on the lights turn off too. Any one know? |

Subaru is using the same paint as their current models.
The head lights turn off with the car. |

When I checked out the car in Dallas. I was able to turn the headlights on without the car being on or the key in. I should note that this was a BRZ, but it should be the same.

I don't understand why everybody is commenting badly on Subbies paint. I drive our family Fozzie for 5 years now. I always get compliments from detailing places where I take it about the quality of the paint and coating. And especially, how good Subies coating is.
Let me tell you one story that happened few years ago. We parked at the beach, near HalfMoonBay, CA. If you've been there, you know that some parking spaces there are tight. I parked too close to a white pickup truck. On our way back, as I'm opening the car and help kids to get in, I notice a scratch on the front right fender. Scratch looked bad, dinting the metal sheet and exposing white undercoat (my car color is not white). I'm thinking, damn you, truck! But of cause he is gone. Well, later that day, I washed the car and as I inspect the dent, something did look right to me. The white strip on the dent didn't look like my undercoat. Guess what? It was that trucks paint. I easily took it off with a cloth, and to my surprise my clear coat wasn't damaged! Now I hava just a small dent, which you'll not notice anyway due to original color of my car. I have no idea, what happened since 2007-2008 Subie production painting process, but I have zero complains about its quality. When I checked out SWP BRZ Limited at the dealer, paint looked exactly what I have on our current Subie. So, I don't understand you guys. Maybe non-JDM Subies have different paint or coating, but our Fozzie and upcoming BRZ are both made in Japan. Maybe that's the difference. |

I am going to be so pissed the first time I get even the slightest ding in my car. I do a lot of driving for work and I park all over the place. The worst is definitely parking lots. I have a bunch of dings on the middle of my drivers door. Like, who does that? Who just opens a door without holding it and lets it smash into another car. I think I'm going to be so incredibly paranoid every time I park.
Which brings me to a question, do you guys think you'll give parking a little extra thought when you get the car? At least for the first little while? Like parking a little further away in a parking lot where there's less cars, things like that? Oh, and there's this device that when you open your car door a little piece of whatever wraps around your car door to prevent yours and the other car from being damaged. That's definitely a feature that I think should be standard in all cars. It's pretty amazing. |

Need technology that takes a picture out of the side you got hit (with a nice big flash) and pictures for the next couple minutes every few seconds that try to capture a license plate. :P
My wife took our dog to a park one day and as she got there somebody was pulling out, scraped against the side of a vehicle and dented it. The driver took a quick look to make sure nobody saw her and then she drove away. Haha, my wife wrote down the license plate of the chick who hit the car and put the info on the back of her business card on the person's windshield. The person phoned my wife to thank her and the best part... The person who got hit was an off-duty cop! |

I always park carefully, and after almost 1.5 years of ownership my car does not have a single door ding. Door dings are not inevitable; you just have to take great care to park carefully away from others, avoiding tight spots and other hazards. Sometimes it's unavoidable that your car will be damaged but you can definitely take steps to mitigate the risk.
