I have read those threads as well. When I reseal the timing cover I am going to be installing the bluemoon baffle and killer B pickup as well. I have some corners at local tracks that are spiking lateral G's pretty hard and it will drop out the oil pressure to the low teens at 4-5k rpm under load. Right now that has me the most concerned. If it looks good I may up redline to 8k to see what happens. I have a spare motor anyway so might as well experiment.

my BRZ is a 2020 and the oil runs 240 most all the time. if I go for a spirited drive, it hits 270 quite quickly.
My oil cooler is on the way. There's no wonder there is a history of rod bearing problems |

Yeah I know. I would not have expected the temps to get that high that quickly. My spirited drives are pretty spirited, high rpm downshifts and back on the throttle thru corners. Yes its a bit like tracking the car on a track day. Fortunately, today's oils can stand 270 without much problem. Just means I need to change the oil more often. Of which, I had it changed today at Subaru dealer. I wanted to make sure it got the oil they recommend. So If I have a problem, its on them. |

270F is okay = I just change the oil more often 270F is okay but 290F is not okay (20F difference) Got it

290F is simply LESS okay than 270F. The proper solution to this would be even more frequent oil changes if you are seeing this temperature at times vs. seeing 270F.

That would be an aftermarket solution which, depending on the product, creates other risks that could lead to harming your engine. A quality product with proper installation is certainly important when going this route, as well as constant maintenance of the cooler for any problems such as leaks, and gauges to insure you are getting the temperatures and pressures you desire (as oil may run too cool for daily applications). Not steering anyone away from oil coolers, but many people have been led to believe the simple solution for oil rising to high temperatures is an oil cooler. Unfortunately, it's more complicated than that, and though it is a viable solution, plenty of research should be done before jumping on the thought that "I'll just get an oil cooler and everything will be all good!"
