FR-S Raven Paint?
Hey guys, I've been looking for a white FR-S everywhere... and along the line I started loving the raven. The sales guy said they raven paint won't spiderweb or get paint swirls after washing because of how they paint this car?
Is this true, at all? Or is this sales guy bull? I'm starting to love the raven but now I'm a bit worried about paint swirls... my dark blue hummer had them and it always bothered me. |

He's full of crap. End of story.
Sales people cannot be trusted. I had one tell me only 50 FR-S were going to be imported this year in the whole US and that's why they had a 10k Mark-up. Sad part is, there are people out there who actually believe them. If there was a black paint that was swirl proof, don't you think Subaru/Toyota would have be announcing that. Personally I think its a huge deal. |

Even the White one from a member had paint swirls. They all do, and I doubt BLACK will not have any or get the sooner or later

True enough. I knew it was bull but needed someone to confirm it.
Is black paint more prone to swirling than white? Is there any way around it? I love the raven but a car full of swirls isn't much to look at... |

Maybe you misunderstood what he said. He probably said the raven will be the first to spiderweb and swirl after a wash.

Great comment that sales people cannot be trusted. NOT Anyway, that particular sales rep is a bullshit artist by the sounds of it. Then again I didn't hear the whole conversation. My guess is for the most part Toyota aren't pleased with salepeople misinforming clients on features that don't exist. Sounds like an old time car salesman. Like this one I have a great video I wanted to insert here but cant seem to attach a hyperlink (somebody please help)

Mine is Raven and it will get swirls. I have been babying mine while waiting to get the OptiCoat done to make sure paint correction is minimal and microfibre towels will cause swirls. Dissapears with a proper wax but shows back up after a wash.

Black cars look dirtiest fastest, are the fastest and easiest to attain swirl marks from washing, and are one of the easiest to see small paint imperfections...
But my God do they look sexy when kept super Mint and well taken care of.... |

I have a Raven FR-S and I love the color. But... I do notice some swirling and spider web but not much. However, as much as I love the color I wish I would have waited for another color. Black requires a lot of work. The bugs are killing me. Every other day I'm outside with a bucket of hot water and a microfiber cleaning off every little carcass.

Any car with clear coat can swirl or spiderweb, darker colours just show the most. Most swirling/spiderwebbing is caused by improper wash/polish technique by the dealer and then eventually the owner. With proper technique theres no reason these problems should ever happen. If they do, a mild compound like mazerna 85rd can easily remove any swirls and light spiderwebbing. Don't mess around with an orbiter or hand polishing, rotary is how you get results. The best place for advice is the detailing forums - detailing bliss, autopia, etc.
Also the reason ur swirls disappear with wax/sealant application and reappear after washing is the wax is only filling in the "scratches" (swirls/spiderwebs). As soon as the wax is washed out you see the marks again. Polishing out such minor paint defects is quick and simple once you know what you're doing. I'm assuming FLIP FR-S you're just using hot water and scrubbing the bugs without washing? This is a huge no-no. You will definitely start to see scratches in high lighting conditions. You should be washing the car prior to any paint work (ideally using a bug/tar remover or mild degreaser on the bugs in your pre-soak phase) then you can use a soft clay bar (recaro blue) to remove the contaminant to minimize scratching. Black cars are hardest to maintain clean.
They look dusty the fastest. If you have a garage, it's alright, but if not, I would highly recommend against it. Quote:
Anyway, don't touch a rotary unless you really know what you're doing, and you have a junker or spare hood grabbed from the junkyard you can experiment and learn on.
