More importantly, disconnecting the battery will lose any diagnostics data from the ECU. This data helps a lot with dealer diagnosis of any issues. |

No problems with Ethanol, only in old cars that have steel tanks, rubber hoses and parts etc.
new cars wont have a problem. i run it in my lux, never had an issue.

Hi fellow 86 ers,
Can I say that almost everyone I race with swear by BP... apparently it is the most consistent of premiums in the 98 range... consistency is what you need when your car has been tuned to it.. on another note... if you see the tanker in the servo.. drive on by.. as the fuel goes into the main tanks it stirs up all of the crap and you will take it onboard your new 86... it will take a few hours for it to settle so just drive on by.. In my HSV race car I get a stern talking to if the fuel is over two weeks old by my engine tuner... it looses a few octane point after three weeks.. Oh and the higher octane means cooler running.. no crap detonation which will stop valves and piston tops burning.. you have nice cars.. good fuel and 5000k oil and filter.. cheap insurance.. just my thoughts on it.. my HSV runs on Royal Purple and has 86000k's on it.. just did the heads but the bores are all good.. as I say, cheap insurance !! |

I find BP Ultimate to be the safer and more consistent then all the others. Shell 98 seems like it goes off to quick, provides the best bang for buck initially but looses its potency to quick. Caltex 98 ive never had luck with, no bang, no extra kms, dont know why either. BP Ultimate i get more kms, and decent bang so i stick with it. Having said that thou to a factory ecu it would not matter much, its when you fiddle with timing fuel becomes important. Factory ecu will loose power on lower qual fuel but you wont gain much if anything by using any of the 98 avail in OZ on a untouched ecu. |

I've always used BP Ultimate 98 - in WA they were the first and only choice for a long time.
I have a mate who's an automotive engineer - he instructed me to never put Shell's 98 octane fuel in any car I own that "requires" 96 or higher. Never asked him why - just trust his opinion and have followed his advice. And I don't fill up at Caltex - they charge credit card fees at the company stores (not the woolworths ones). |

Caltex fuel is rubbish - I'd dispute that Vortex98 is actually 98 RON, given my experiences with it.
