![]() Dealer - JD001, your car is ready, the recall work has been done. JD001 - OK, I'm here to pick it up - (notices that the mileage is exactly the same as when he dropped it off - they must have pushed it out of the bay onto the lot) JD001 fires up his car and pulls up to the exit to the dealerships lot BAM! - the engine stops, blue smoke pours out from under the hood, oil runs out from under the car, pieces of metal fly everywhere. Dealer - sorry about that, we will take a look at it Dealer calls JD001 later - to inform him that four rods have spun bearings and the crankshaft has spun all of its bearings. Warranty work is denied because of aftermarket cams - sorry - ![]() ![]() humfrz Last edited by humfrz; 04-06-2019 at 04:30 PM. |

The HKS ones require different pistons and the piper ones all add lift (less so) so you might not want to be using OEM valve springs, piston clearance might be tight. You'd want to talk to someone who's built an engine to confirm, rather than just throw them on. The fact that there is so little info around on them would suggest that the are probably not that worth it unless you're going for a mega build.
"HKS tested its 260/266 camshafts in a 2.1-liter, HKS GT supercharged FA20. The cams showed an increase of 11.8 horsepower at 6,950 RPM. Peak torque also increased by 3.9 percent." So ~10hp increase when boosted and running a stroker kit.

OK.
Are you sure it's not the "crickets" talking to you? (they actually live on the drivers side) How long has it been making the noise? Do you have any exhaust mods? Does it click at idle when the car is not moving? Does the clicking increase with increased engine RPMs? humfrz |

I have seen where some 2017's had to have valve adjustments supposedly. Heh, sad.
http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showt...ght=adjustment Here is the thread. 4? gentleman getting same cel, ended up needing valve adjustments. While you can only read into it so much it's very surprising one of the guys during his fix ran into another guy at the dealer new 500 mile brz was in for the valve adjustment also. This is actually the reason I did not just try to get a new brz PP for my recalled 13. It seems they are still having valve problems which is concerning 5-6 years later and shows they are not trust worthy. Either they fked up again on the same parts, or in a year there will be another half million - million vehicles recalled when expanded to years 2014-18. My guess is the later and the reality was not from some simple mistake, but a flaw from using inferior materials and design. Subaru has probably continued to use these suppliers out of cost and demand. Going to feel real nice if they continued to build a million flawed vehicles just so they could support the sales numbers / demand to begin with. Last edited by subaru; 04-09-2019 at 08:25 PM. |

Adjust valves, OK, pop the hood, take 2 nuts off valve cover (on top of engine), grab a 9/16th wrench, a screwdriver and a 2 feeler gauges. Adjust valves, replace valve cover. A 15 minute job even if you were slow.
Oh, sorry wrong forum - ![]() humfrz |

Dropped her off at the garage this morning. My car will be the 4th that the garage is sorting. I thought that they worked on the valve springs with the engine in place, but they take it out.. but only remove the valve covers to get to the valve springs, no other engine stripping.. They have been given 8hrs to work on the standard family car and 14hrs for the BRZ. He suggested that they can change the clutch as the engine will be out, got me thinking about uprated clutch and lightweight flywheel... The manager is okay installing the upgraded parts.. I am tempted, looking at TRD items. The last time I had a balanced lightweight flywheel installed it made a massive difference in how the car picked up revs.. it's tempting.
