Car wont start, battery tested normal ??
hello, can someone please guide me what to do with my car, it was running normally 2 days ago, but today it suddenly won't start, no crank at all. the battery is tested to be normal by a mechanic(i just forgot to remember the voltage number ,etc), already tried to jumpstart, and still no crank at all.
now i've read in the other threads about solenoid starter gone bad, but i think that my car's symptoms don't fit. 1st try : all indicator lights, windows, headlights, doorlocks, are normal. car wont start with no crank at all, and i heard 2 clicks when trying to start the car. 2nd try : pushed the start button once, and then on the accessory mode, all the indicator lights flicker. i immediately turn the car off. 3rd try : car wont even go to accessory mode, pushing start button does nothing, windows does not close when the door is closed too. Now i've experienced similar symptom of 2nd try in my Ford Ecosport, but that was simply the battery died. But on this one, the battery is 8 months old and it was normal when tested, i also cleaned the wirings too. Please also note that im from a country where ft86 is quite rare, so i have trouble finding a workshop that knows this car well. i would really like to try to fix this myself first. 2012 FT86 Automatic with 50k km my car mods are : full exhausts, Dastek Unichip (6 months old with no issue), and recently put a window screen film but did not open the door panel. please, any help would be appreciated. could it be the fob battery? Try to start it with holding the fob right up against the start button and see what happens.

When you had the battery tested, did the mechanic just test the voltage at rest or did they perform a load test? Sometimes batteries can test okay at rest but voltage drops when load is applied. I wouldn't completely rule out the battery being the issue until you have it load tested.
Starter would be my next guess if the battery actually is fine though.

Clutch sensor or brake sensor, perhaps? My car won't start unless I press the clutch in.

Check the fuses too. I had the 7.5amp "Stop" fuse blow, and the car wouldn't start.
Also, I just realized I have never changed my fob battery. Same battery from 2012. EDIT: If a battery is really dead, you may need 2 sets of jumper cables to get the car to start. (especially if you have cheaper ones with small gauge wire)

Have you tried jump starting the car? I had a battery issue where the accessories worked, but the starter would not engage. The car started when we jump started it and ended up being a faulty battery.

Do you happen to have any insurance OBD plug-in device that monitors driving habits?
I had a Progressive Snapshot that drained the battery overnight. A few years ago Progressive was sued for this drainage. |

Click click. Battery tested good.
Remove both battery cables and wire brush them. Same with terminals. Try to start again. If it still doesn't start, have someone tap the starter with a hammer (lightly) as you push the start button. This is probably where the clicking is coming from. Your symptoms sound like a bad starter. If tapping the starter works, don't shut it off and drive to a mechanic |
