Any tips for replacing ignition coil B (driver front) - Toyota GR86, 86, FR-S and Subaru BRZ Forum & Owners Community

I'm consistently getting the check engine light for ignition coil B. Will be replacing it tomorrow. Were you able to reach it without lifting the car? Any components that I should unbolt and move out of the way? Any tools you would recommend? I have a 3/8 drive ratchet and torque wrench, but the fit looks really tight.

The port injector cover is going to be a bitch to remove (to get space to see the coil packs) unless you disconnect the fuel lines (pull out pump fuse, messy). I managed to wiggle the cover towards the front of the car with the oil filter and engine oil screw cap removed - lots of to & fro and moving shit out of the way but at least I didn't have to get fuel everywhere.

You can get to the 10mm bolt holding the coil pack with a small ratchet (and hopefully not giant hands). See 3rd photo in this thread: http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=88906

At least you don't have to get to the spark plugs - that's a whole shebang by itself.

Bro, I removed all my ignition coils and wrapped them in gold tape. Trust me, so much easier lifting the motor. And you don’t need a torque wrench, just hand tighten and you’re good.

The 3rd photo makes it look easy lol. Do you think it's doable without removing the oil filter? I'm worried that the oil will flow everywhere (JR oil cooler). Going to try again tomorrow morning, wasn't able to finish before sunset.

That photo is of the passenger side, its a lot tigher on the side you need to work on, good luck

Little late, but you only need to remove the injector cover. We do this at the track between sessions all the time.

Thanks for the tips, did it this morning. For clearance I removed oil fill cap, port injector box (the art of wiggling), strut tower bar, and unclipped fuel hose holder thingy.
