My friend owns a professional body and paint shop. He told me that you can NEVER get paint to match unless you repaint the entire car. I've never seen any re-paint even be close to factory paint quality, even the good ones.

We're talking about a brand new car. The paint hasn't had a chance to fade a tall yet. It may be easier to match. I had to have the rear quarter repaired on my Jeep. It was about two years old and the body shop did have to paint about a third of the car in order to make the Jeep Solar Yellow match the age of my existing paint.

There was a member on here who had similar damage to the lower part of his bumper and fixed it easily in his driveway. A full repaint of the bumper is not even necessary (and I would try to avoid it because the oem job is usually pretty good).

That would be very difficult to argue. I'd ask for a free 30k service instead. They know the majority of it will be labor anyway and not go past the inspection phase. Good value to the owner, small out of pocket for the dealer.

That's a little different, that car is destroyed value-wise. OP simply needs a bumper/cover. 30k service is several hundred dollars...assuming those that actually pay them. I don't see them paying more than a $500 inconvienience fee without threats of small claims court. My method keeps goodwill should he ever need it in the future for warranty work, especially work needed a few hundred over the expiration(sometimes it happens).

I've had three incidents at three different dealerships... one of which included a porter who destroyed the right-front of my new-ish Jaguar XK8 while backing a Land Rover up at near top reverse-speed... and not a single time was I treated any better as a result. Their attitudes seemed to be, "Sue or shut up." Dealerships are out to make money: if they can get out of a lawsuit, they will. If they can charge you for any work done, they will. (And don't let that deter you if you need warranty work later on; they are bound BY LAW to honor warranties. And if they don't, you won't even have to take them to court, because the home corporate offices will probably have their asses if they pull shit like that. It brings down the overall brand name, and they don't like that.) |

Don't be afraid to be a total stickler about getting the new bumper installed. I've had the bumpers on my Impreza replaced several times (mostly not my fault) and the hardest part seems to be getting them aligned properly. I've taken it back to the body shop a few times to have them "try again" to get it to meet properly with other panels.

I saw "shipped from japan" as an option. Is this a real thing? Can you get a factory painted bumper from the MFG?
