Yep. Car is sitting in the garage until the Blackstone kit arrives and I change the oil. Been doing reading. Going with redline 0w20 I think.

I would think changing to at least a 0W30 synthetic oil for track duty in Southern California makes sense - @CSG Mike, what do you guys run in your cars that see a mix of road and track use?

0w20 is just for fuel economy. I'm using 5w30 for ordinary road usage. A more appropriate grade for the track is 5w40.

But, which side of the dipstick you need to look at for that?

With proper oil cooling? 0W20. Boosted cars typically run a 30 weight to be safe, but no need in a NA car that has sufficient cooling.

No it's not. Oil weight is based on tolerances.

Mike, is it based on "tolerances" or "clearances?"

Oil flow rate through a fixed size passage is limited by viscosity. By going with a thicker oil you decrease the flow rate and increase pressure only at the pump which means your oil pump also is more likely to wear. Racing oils have fancy additives. Things like zddp and other shit that's way above my head. You don't just want thicker oil.

Tighter tolerance allows for tighter clearance

Dunno man, I bet there are some Exxon engineers who would laugh their asses off if they saw this.

I have seen multiple spun bearing threads on FT86, but none mentioned tracking on 0w20

Tracking on a 0w20 is a joke, unless you don't care for the engine or you are doing a couple of laps. It is not so much about oil temperatures, but about oil pressure. Engine clearances are fine with a 5w40 oil. For compatibility, you can check here:

Try extended 45 minute sessions in 105F (40C)+ temps.

I've not had any issues yet, and I'm pretty sure my 2017 has more track miles on in than most cars see in their lifetime...

I assume you read Japanese.
