I had a 68 C20 for a while. 4 wheel drum, garbage suspension, manual steering, a metric ton of rust....

Worst thing I ever drove was a 52 ford pickup with manual brakes and a 3 speed. The clutch felt like I was doing a 1000lb leg press.

I felt the same way OP. I used to like driving because I got to see new places and nice views. Gave me some me time too. Then I went car free because I worked downtown and public transit was better.

The day I got laid off I missed my bus and decide to cross the street to the Toyota dealer, remembering how I enjoyed driving. Figure I'd just go test drive a Corolla. Walk in, see the FR-S right in front. Look at the price tag. "Wow, that's cheap for such a nice car"... Too bad I need a new job. Get a new job but it's not practical due to the location of the new job.

Two years later, I get a job that's a long commute but has parking. Walk in, point at the FR-S. I was still dreaming about it daily. Doing a yearly test drive. Pulling the trigger was the best decision of my life. I am still in love with the car, I can't picture myself in another econobox. A new world had opened to me. Joy rides are more frequent than before, a new hobby has been found. I am a very frugal person, except when it comes to gas and food. Car is a new hobby, but there's a lot of convincing myself when I buy parts. I'm happy with the way it drives, I just did the basic cosmetics wheels, lights and exhaust. My build is complete.

FR-S will always have a special place in my heart. It's a shame so few people care about their driving experience and would rather complain about driving than to get a fun car because they want to save on gas.

It won't really be recognized for what a really stellar car it is until it's gone. Not many cars today that a normal human can afford are aimed at just having fun. Two generations now have grown up with cars being nothing more than a "transportation appliance". The FR-S/BRZ/86 is an affordable oddity.

Buy one.

This.

And.

Your writing belies your age - clearly you have a talent for expressing yourself cogently.

Congrats on a great car, and a formidable brain . . .

. . . that would have you choose this awesome car, and opine about it so eloquently.

Thank you so much. After writing that mass post I went back and had to edit it a little bit, looked pretty bad

How it was written isn't important. The message was.

And not a single 'whip' 'bro' 'fitment' or 'clean' was used.
