To pull the trigger or to wait?

Recently joined the site not too long ago and been enjoying the pics, discussions, and advice so far.

I'm a very picky person which is making it extra difficult to find the car I want when dealers can't keep anything that they get on the lot for more than an hour. I found a dealer who will order me the exact car I want (manual ultramarine with NO options or dealer add-ons) and sell to me at MSRP which is rare to find one under 27K in Southern Cali. Of course the downside is that I'll have to wait 60-90 days for delivery...

My concern is that anything can happen in 90days, do you think demand will be just as high for this car in a few months? Do you think Scion will come out with any incentive rebates (such as loyalty rebate for trading in a Scion/Toyota)? I'd hate to order the car, put down my deposit, then find better deals once it arrives.

Should I wait and see or just pull the trigger and order it?

If I like something after done w/ tons of research then call all dealers upto 100 miles, walk in and just drive it home. I don't like go pay and come out w/ nothing .
That's how to pull a trigger.

Double check with your dealer, most likely your deposit is fully refundable if in case after 90 days the vehicle arrives and you're no longer interested.

Yes, quite frankly the vehicle is still in high demand, with people waiting approx 5 months for it (BRZ). If you can get one in 90 days, that's pretty fast IMO. Also, I've never seen any dealer go under MSRP yet - on the BRZ.

As for incentives or rebates, I don't know as I'm on Subaru's side. I only know of the student incentive Toyota has. Maybe someone with Scion can add their 2c, and there's probably another thread like this, this question sounds familiar.

Check out of state. Many members bought cars at or even under MSRP from dealers in Colorado.

Is there a out of state fee when living in CA and buy out of state? I was looking to do that with a CPO Honda S2000 and I remember someone telling me there are some oh of state fees. Maybe it's different with new cars.

No. I think the only thing is state sales tax.

Before I even started emailing dealers, I had an image in my head of what I wanted in the car (stereo, transmission, and colour). I figured that colour and stereo were of lesser importance than getting a feel for the car with the transmission that I wanted. So I started emailing dealers with the hopes that one of them in my area would have one to try. I don't buy anything that I didn't test drive first.

I got an email saying that one was available not only to test drive, but also, to purchase. Once I drove it, I knew that I was hooked. Because I respect my wife, I came back for a second test drive with her. We crunched the numbers with my trade-in and then we were faced with the decision - wait months to receive an order for the exact one that I had envisioned or purchase the car sitting right in front of me. Resistance was futile, I had to have it and I could not let it slip out of my grasp. Owning one now - I have absolutely no regrets.

Not sure if you have driven one yet, but, I think that you will know the right decision once you have done so. As to all of the other stuff, that is your call if you want to wait. I have bought many things that end up being cheaper down the road, but, the sooner you have it, the sooner that you will be getting your money's worth out of it. This car is still in its early stages of popularity with no signs of easing up. I would be shocked to hear of any incentives except for Grad or Military rebates.

I hope this helps.

Can always do what I did! Give every dealer in Southern California your number and have them call you when a manual FR-S comes in! After a few months of looking for one I was finally able to get my hands on one.

Order the car the way you want it...it's a $500 down payment...I wouldn't think any incentives would come out in the next few months...if they did, they probably wouldn't apply to the FR-S anyway.

I ordered mine a few weeks back. I paid $500, which they told me could be applied to the first payment, or totally refunded if I wanted. Told them I wanted to get through winter with my current car, so I was looking at April delivery. They told me no problem, and said they'd order it in time for it to be delivered when I was ready. Simple and painless.

I may be totally off base here, but considering that the twins are the fastest selling cars around I doubt there will be further incentives offered. If anything they will try and get more money, not less.

If you are super picky and not in midlife crisis (you got lots of time and patience to wait) then I suggest you order exactly what you want.

I must have been one of luckiest people on the forum with my car after reading the wait times so many have.

Just went to the dealership back in August to put down the $500 to get on waiting list... there were 7 other people ahead of me. The manager told me well we have a White Alpine with ST otw from Houston right now (One other person wanted AT). That's exactly what I wanted and picked it up right off the truck the next day. Already have 3,400 miles on it now and the guy wanting the Whiteout AT is still waiting as of 2 weeks ago.

Guess it's just pure luck.

If your picky... I would wait until the 2013 version is announced.

See if they fixed the idling, and other problems.

You probably will get an armrest too!
