Why I'm glad I got my FRS (And why you should pull the trigger if you want one.)

Before I get into this I want to state that I am no Doug DeMuro, I just turned 18 in March and I have only driven THREE cars in my entire life. a 2007 Honda Odyssey, 2005 Volvo S60 and a few 2013 FRS' before pulling the trigger on my Ultramarine Beauty that you can see in my signature.

I'd also like to point out that I learned how to drive in the FRS. Upon turning 18 I was granted a drivers license through DMV by completing my driving test in the FRS.

Before I ever sat behind the wheel of one of these cars I really had no interest in pursuing my own or even had an interest in cars or Motorsports in general. I didn't know much about cars back then and to be completely honest I'm no guru now. When I first came onto these forums as a potential buyer of the vehicle a lot of the members on here actually told me to not go for it due to my age and how new of a driver I was. I'm extremely happy I went for it.

I'm not sure if it's a new driver thing or a first car thing, but there isnt a single time I park my car and I don't snap my head 3 or 4 times to look at it, there's not a single time I sit behind the wheel and turn the ignition and not smile. Getting this car has opened up so many doors that has been really cool to experience. I've had the opportunity to meet a lot of great people both on the road and online. Just a few weeks after getting my license I met up with a fellow forum user from the DMV on here and they are someone who'd I'd consider a pretty good friend now, I've had the opportunity to go to a few local meets and meet other owners and to me I feel like that's one of the most important things about owning this car and being able to get involved in the amazing community behind it.

As I had mentioned earlier I haven't driven too many cars in my lifetime but the enjoyment behind the wheel that this car has given me is unmatched. I live in an area where I'm surrounded by mountains to drive and nothing beats the feeling of getting into the halfway point of a turn and putting the throttle down and sling-shotting in and out of the turns and corners. Of course there are many cars on the market that can give you this feel but for the price (drove mine off the lot for $17,500) and how openly you can truly make the car yours you can't go wrong.

The platform is truly unique and I feel like there is a very strong negative bias about the car until people actually sit behind the wheel and drive one themselves.

If you're in the market for a car of this genre go get one while they're hot

I have owned 40 or so cars and still stop and look at this one every time I park.
I also would like to thank you for proving that there are indeed many good, reasonable and intelligent teens on this forum.

Due to the nature of my job with fleet cars, I have driven hundreds of different car models. The vast majority being 21st century modern cars, more accurately from 2007 to today. Price range is from something as dinky as a Mitsubishi Mirage to a Maserati Quattroporte.

This was the only car I was convinced to actually go out and buy new. Had this car not existed, I likely still would've never have bought a new car.

Fun fact, despite so many people bashing it for being slow, this is probably one of the fastest cars I've actually driven. Kind of made easy when everything full size and down I've driven is slower, every mainstream CUV is generally slow, normal and heavy duty pickup trucks and cargo vans which aren't slow but also not really fast, and today's minivans are a smidgen slower as they're legitimately quick without cargo. Only the expensive turbo stuff or stuff with really big high output engines I've seen easily out muscle this car. Its not even the slowest sporty coupe I've driven, because I've driven a Camaro V6 soft top...that felt quite slow probably because its too heavy and the Challenger V6...that too wasn't fast.

I'm with tcoat, I've had lots of cars, even been part owner of pure race cars, and this car is very cool. I couldn't imagine having something this cool at your age. Good job. Stay responsible.

Btw, you also have the best color.

I hope to keep my FRS for a long long time, It's going to be my Daily for a long time so by the time I'd need to get a family car down the road etc. etc. It wont be worth much unless these turn into the next Surpra or something

Thank you so much though, A lot of people bashed me for being interested in the car because of the Boy-Racer mindset a lot of youngsters like me have. I won't lie the first few weeks I had the car I was driving like quite an ***hole and launching it etc etc, but I'm a bit past that at this point, It's taught me a lot about driving just pushing the car and seeing how it will react in certain ways, I'm absolutely in love with it

I was extremely set on white when I decided that this was the car I wanted (I was up against either getting a 2009 350z or a 2010-2012 Miata) and when I went in person and saw the Orange "Hot Lava" in person that was the first FRS I had driven and the color popped, but man when I saw the Ultramarine in person it really hit me. Pictures don't do it justice, driving at night with the Ultramarine as well is such a lux color and when light hits it at night and it flakes back at you with that purple shine you just stand there like

And as for my age and all, I actually started driving this car about midway through my Senior year and I just graduated High School a few weeks ago, I come from a smallish town so I was snapping heads left and right and attracting civics all day

Every new car I ever bought befor the twin was white. I had every intention on buying a white one, then I saw the sapphire one.

I am so glad I didn't get white. At every 86 meet I've been at more than half are white.

One freind of mine says every time he sees my car it is a different color. I love my ultramarine twin.

I feel like the ultramarine is literally a color changing car depending on where you park it and the light that hits it. At the car wash the other day it was maybe midnight or one in the morning and I was just doing a late night pressure wash and the light made my car look a VERY vibrant purple, it was awesome.

Because I'm a Dad, I have to ask if you are or are planning on getting performance driving instruction. I know it's cliche but I think back to being 18 and driving mountain roads in a much more forgiving car and wonder how the hell I lived through it.

Also, kudos for realizing what is important is how You feel about Your car and not what anyone else thinks.

Hello VoltsFRS2013, good to hear you're happy with your machine .....

Congratulations on you graduating from high school......

Now, I suggest you focus your attention on future education or training for a career.

You will most likely always remember growing up with this car, and after it gets too small and you go through a series of SUVs, Vans, Pickup trucks, more SUVs ...... you will be able to get another one ...... sort of like it ...... although it may run on hydrogen and be self driving .....

Hey @Tcoat and @Ultramaroon ...... shall we tell the young-ens about drum brakes, manual steering, biased ply tires, small shocks, 6 volt headlights, no turn signals, no ABS, or TC or ESC or rear view cameras or fog lights or seat belts or air bags or ........

We just won't talk about gravel roads, bald retreaded tires, worn out brake shoes, leaking shocks, broken springs, ........

If we did, they just may give us a ..... ...... just for being alive ......

Don't forget soft leaf springs on a solid rear axle causing wallowing in corners and wheel hop and potentially snapped driveshafts and pinions from excessive axle wrap on acceleration.

Makes for great suspension articulation in the 4x4 world, but muscle cars don't care for it.
