dont know if it as simple as what happened to me but i installed a jdl uel and had a very raspy sound that ended up being the header rubbing against the bottom shield. they took the shield off, saw the rub marks and hammered down the shield and the odd sounds went away.

Without some software tools its very xifficult to determine 100% if car is tuned. You can check cvn number against stock.

Alternativly if you use ecutek kit and do a query ecu it will tell you if ecutek licience in ecu or not. If ecutek wont read ecu it likely benn tuned with brzedit.

With oft if it wont read you dont know if its ecutek or brzedit.
Thanks for the help! I figured that would be the case but thought I'd ask just to be sure. My headers are the Tomei UEL and the O2 sensors are practically right next to eachother so I don't think it would be tricking it into thinking I'm running a cat still.

Also I drive on the highway for maybe 50 min everyday along with about 20 min of city driving so I'm not sure if that would be preventing me from getting the CEL.

I've read that with ecutek you can use the cruise control to choose different maps so I tried that but without luck. If I am tuned with brzedit what are my options for getting rid of it and going with my own tune?

Another not so obvious way of checking is to get to second gear and floor it while watching the RPMS. When the car hits 3500 RPMS the RPMS should start slowing down and not climb quite as fast even with your foot down. That should be the infamous torque dip. If you see that happen then you are on the stock tune.
When driving I can definitely feel a torque dip around 3500 to 4500 and then it picks back up strong around 5000. I have never drove any other 86 before mine so I can't really tell if this is the full stock torque dip or the somewhat better one of the stage 1 tune.

You are most likley on the stock tune. When i went stage 1 i barely noticed the torque dip and stage 2 with UEL its basically non-existant. But yeah follow what steve said in the post above and you will be able to tell for sure.

Isn't it possible OP will still experience torque dip even if running a Stage 2 tune with the stock header? Not sure this is a sure-fire way to check.

OP - just buy the OFT and let us know if you run into any issues!

I guess its possible but in my experience he would be experiencing a lot more issues as Stage 2 is specifically for Aftermarket headers.

I am running the Tomei UEL headers now and from stock to now I could not tell really any difference at all. Besides the rumble of course haha

I'll be getting the OFT this weekend so I'll report back with it working or not.

Yeah you wont notice a difference until you get it tuned. Just bolting on parts doesnt do much. Car needs to know what to do before you feel any real difference.

Just updating that I bought the OFT this weekend and the install went perfectly. No issues with my ecu being tuned before so apparently the Tomei UEL headers just didn't want to cause a CEL on my car Also updating that after the tune my exhaust definitely sounds better. Not a world of change but for sure a difference.

Oh and also holy shit the stage 2 UEL oft tune made me love my car again and even better with the E85 tune. I can't believe I waited this long to go ahead with it as it's the best mod I've done so far

I installed headers too like 3 week ago and still have no CEL, I was wondering too if the car may had a tune already. Seem like we do not have CEL light when doing headers with out tune.

The CEL is not a guarenteed thing. Some cars do it right away while others wont do it for months. I've heard a lot of it can be how you drive.

Regardless, the benefits of new headers wont get felt until you get a tune.

I'm not really impressed. Maybe because my expectations were too high and also because going from the stock tune to the stage 1 was way more of a noticeable difference. Overall I'm happy with it but damn...I'm sure cops will be attracted to my car now lol.

Its not constantly raspy, only when im taking off from a complete stop at around 2k - 4k rpm than it smooths out and becomes a deep growl.
No cats will most definitely cause rasp, but so will the q300 as I found with the Tomei UEL, even had a catted front pipe. Not all muffler materials are created equal. I have tried a ton of catbacks and for sound Miltek and Perrin resonated were best imo.

Going to OFT soon, hope it's will get rid of that torque dip.
Thanks for the reply!
